Hello All..... So it's been 5 days since surgery....I'm glad to been on the losing team and all  however I cannot figure out what the heck is going on? I've had the runs for 2 days not just a slight bout we are talking every 1/2 hr or so.  Did any one else have this problem right after surgery?  What did you do? Or how long does it last?  Can someone let me know PLEASE i really need to know what the heck to do. Thanks! B

I had the complete opposite....I was contispated for about two weeks.  Not sure if the runs is normal or not. I will be interested in what others say.  Maybe you should call your doctor on Monday if it is not better.  You don;t want to get dehydrated. Take care...hope you feel better soon -Tracey

B- yep, I had that too.  Just remember that since you're taking in only liquids, not solids, thats kind of how its gonna come out.  I am still on a full liquid diet and for the most part my stools are pretty loose still.

You should call your doctor if it continues.  Last month my son had his surgery and 5 days later he also had the same problem as you.  It was C-Diff which is a bacteria that causes the runs.   Are you having any pain?  He had quite severe pain off and on which prompted him to call his doctor.  He had to go on 2 very strong antibiotics to cure this.  I'm not saying you have this, but it should be checked out if it continues.  Take care, Pat

B- I had the same issue.  For me, it turned out that I became lactose intolerant after surgery.  I stopped using milk for a while and I was better.  I used soy milk for quite a while.  Now I can use skim milk for my shakes, and eat yogurt and cheese.  Appaently it's not unusual to become lactose intolerant right after surgery.  I recommend calling your nut. to see if there's anything they can suggest.  Hope you are feeling better soon! everything that everyone else said..........but if your doc says it is ok, you may want to try some immodium to help stop the runs........but check with your doc first to get the ok!

Agree with what every one else has said.  Imodium did not help me at all.  I take a couple of lactaid chewables with all my dairy (especially my protien shakes) and it did wonders.    My GP said it might last 3 months, but calmed down after about 10 days.

Don't worry. This does happen. It will stop. I had the same problem. It is your system being in shock from the surgery, anesthetic, liquid diet, etc. For me it lasted only a few days. Just make sure you get your liquids in. Gav
