Post surgery complications

I suffered from a blood clot surfacing a few days after surgery and then I had an opening in my incision that took a few weeks to heal. Other than that I am only lactose intolerant. I can't have milk or ice cream but I can have yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese and pretty much anything else. I had a very smooth surgery without any major complications. Just follow the rules and take really good care of yourself and you should not have any issues.

I'm almost two years out (August) and I've had ZERO complications.  Really....nothing.  My surgery, healing, food tolerances and weight loss has been a breeze!  I'm very grateful.   Tina

At 3.5 weeks out, I developed a stricture. Severe pain when I ate and I couldn't keep food down, only liquids. My surgeon did the scope/dilation thingy to fix it. I'm now 11 weeks out and have not had another problem. Anna

I am almost 5 months out and I have not had ANY issues at all from the surgery. The pain was minimal. I was off all pain meds by the first day home. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Susan, I am one week shy of my one year.  My complications have been mild.   First, I was readmitted about 5 days after leaving the hospital.  Dr. believes that I was having problems with the Lovenox injections I had to give to myself at home postop.  Ended up with black and red stools and spent two days in the hospital to 'clear' out and get the release to go home. Second, I just had my gallbladder out.  No stones during RNY last year.  Test in May showed multiple stones.   I dump on occassion.  I feel sick on occassion.  I get poked with needles every three weeks for my B12.  I have blood taken every 3-6 months (now annually) for my labs.  Otherwise, things have been pretty smooth.  Would I do it again, of course! Hi Susan, I am 12 weeks out from open RYN. Within a week of having surgery I got a infection at my incision site and doctor opened to drain infection. I am still currently packing the wound cause it has to heal from the inside out. Started at over 10 cm deep and currently is about 2 cm deep. It healed pretty fast at first but the fatty tissues take longer.   Even with being back in the hospital twice for antiboditics due to these infections I would not take this back.  Best of luck to you on your upcoming surgery. Wishing you a sppedy recovery. Dani
