When I was very early out of surgery, as you are now, I used to have different meals from the rest of my family.  Granted, we ate together at the table, but I did not eat what they were eating.   For me, the easiest things for me to eat were as follows: Shrimp Tuna fish (although, this I ate sparingly) Grilled chicken Salmon Mashed potatoes My eating habbits are different now from what they were then, but I try to eat the same way.  Protein first and the rest to follow.

Gorton's has a nice filet of salmon or other fish that is about 4 oz.  You can fix some of these for the whole family or fix just one for you.  They are very filling and full of protein.  I usually fixed some sort of chicken or fish the first few weeks after solids were allowed but now I eat steak or pork chops (lean) and do a taco salad (96/4% ground beef).  This is a very full of protein, filling meal and we both love it.  When it's really hot, I'll do cold cuts of turkey and ham and put fruit with it or make a potato salad with Miracle Whip free (I eat about 2 forks full but that's enough for me).  This way we eat the same, just in different amounts.

I would follow the mmpc meal plans you are only two months out and if I remember I did not try to eat meat until I was over 6 months out.  I know you want to eat like your family but you are not able to you are still healing and your stomach is getting back to normal.  I would follow the rules that are set by the mmpc dietician and do the food stage that you are at.  I would not ru**** because it could make you sick and miserable.  I lived on soft foods for the first six months of after my surgery.  Good luck Tricia

I don't believe that is an MMPC rule. I know I was eating meat by then. I do no I had to wait  quite awhile to have raw vegetables. Now, I absolutely love raw veggies - sugar snap peas, carrots,  green pepper, celery, etc. Lynn

Sherry, I think when I was at your stage I sat down with the fam, but ate a variation of what they did.  For example, if I made them spaghetti and meatballs, I ate one or two meatballs with some sauce and a bit of veggies.  If I made turkey burgers, then I cut one in 1/4 and ate it without the bun.  Now, if they had something I knew I couldn't do early on (like pizza) then I did make myself a little dinner plate and sat down with them.  The key is to eat slowly so you're not sitting there staring at them while they eat. Another trick I used was to make things for the guys that I didn't like, like seafood.  Then I wouldn't care what they were eating and I would just make my own little meal. Try to go to different websites and get wls friendly meals that your family would enjoy, too.  You can make them extra side dishes if they want more food. If you can tolerate chili, then try different recipies, like white bean and turkey chili, or make one with just beans. I can't remember when I started to eat meat, but it wasn't that long after my pureed diet phase was over. Keep experimenting and you will find some things that you can enjoy.

In the beginning i used to cook the same old stuff for my family and i'd eat whatever healthy i had.   Then i figured who not just let them eat healthy too?   I needed to teach us all how to eat right and it doesn't hurt them to eat a well balanced low fat meal.    But still, what's wrong with sitting with them and eating your cottage cheese or chili or whatever while they eat their meal?   You would still be eating as a family and spending time together.   Does it bother you what they are eating?   If my husband didn't like what i cooked, he cooked his own food.   I wasn't going to be tempted by the junk anymore.   It was my choice to have wls and i was and still am determined to be a success.   Linda
