Joe, I'm from Lansing, also. I, like you, chose Dr. Kemmeter with MMPC. I was told by the insurance company that I was an excellent cadidate for WLS but was denied.
You need to call MMPC and ask them what your next step is. For me, it was an appeal. Things took a little longer than I had hoped, but in the end, it's all been worth fighting for.
Don't give up yet. Your journey is just beginning!

Hi Joe,
I had to go through two written appeals and a face to face appeal. I drove 4 hours each way for the face to face appeal. Was it worth it? YES!!! I was like you I didn't beleive that it would really ever happen. I didn't beleive it until the morning of surgery. Don't give up ever! It's all worth it.
Listen to the people on this board. I couldn't have gotten through all of this without them.
Good Luck and schedule that surgery.
dont stop now Joe..........you need to appeal.....it wont cost you--only your time.......and have the surgeon's office follow up--------you need to ask the insurance company to be clear why they are denying you, and then build your case.......someone in the surgeon's office can help you put that together.............good luck............keep on going Joe..........it is so worth it once you get it all done!
You got two letters from the insurance company? One saying yes and the other saying no?? What company do you have for your insurance? If you have both letters, I would definitely call and get some answers. It could also be something as small as missing a test result, physician letter, etc. I would not give up. Fight and get the answers you are looking for in regards to both letters. Then, if they stick to the second letter, I would appeal, appeal, appeal. After all, if they sent you one saying you were good to go, then you should have a strong enough case to move forward.

Joe, in case you need it, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth has an Office of Financial and Insurance Services which handles insurance complaints... they have a complaint hotline...their number is 1-877-999-6442. I would make sure that you keep copies of all correspondence you received from this insurance company and should this company change their mind again, I would give the hotline a call. Maybe they could get to the bottom of this company's "mistakes". I hope that everything goes smoothly from here on for you. Please do not give up on your dream.
