Hi everyone, I have a scenerio, and a question with it.. I am 42, moving in with my fiance July, oh its great, we each have 3 kids, mine at home full time with me, I have a mid age babe, thats 2 and 1/2 and two teens, he has a 4 yr old, and 2 teens. part time. anyhow, realistically, (also I am a nursing student) how would yolu recommend, managing the toddler, mine, take him to a daycare, after I have surg. even if it goes ok? will I be able to care for him, now I am not suggesting I sit on my butt, I want/need to walk walk walk, but he is jumpy, and full of energy and a little sweetie pie too, but honestly, should I have him probably planned to go to a daycare for the day when my fiance is at work???? in the early days? I am trying to plan now, that I have firmly decided for the surgery, how to manage everyone and everything in advance, from your own experiences, what would you have done I suppose is the real question... thanks so much! Ann~

I know that  if it was me, I would have either someone at the house to help you or I would have your son attend daycare. I had open RNY and while I wasn't in massive pain, I was pretty exhausted. I had a lot of trouble sleeping for the first week or two. Not sure I could have handled a toddler at that point. Hope that helps! Good luck with your surgery.

Well I have a little guy who will be 3 in Aug. and Yes it would have been kinda hard on me if my husband had not been there for me... I want to say it took only a couple days for me to start back to my same old self..I mean my caring for him....but they do put you on a weight restriction and I had mine done...Lap.....so I am not sure what I would have been like if they would have done it open....I would plan on having your little guy go with someone...

I have a 15 year old with special needs, so he is almost like having a toddler around.  I "hired" my 12 year old to help me.  He did all the running around, made pb & j for lunch, handled answering the phone and all of the stuff I couldn't do that involved getting up and down. Could you enlist the help of the other kids?  Will your surgery be while they are out of school for the summer?  It might be helpful to plan on being out of commission for at least 3 days.  That will give you time to get a little bit back to normal.   One other thing I did.....my hubby chooses pizza whenever it's his turn to make dinner.  I didn't want the kids eating fast food and junk while I was recovering.  I made 12 dinners and froze them so he could just pop them in the oven and I wouldn't have to even think about food. Good luck....it's not going to be an easy 2 weeks or so on the family, but it will go by quickly and soon you'll be able to do things with the little guy you weren't able to do before.

Ann,  I have a 3 year old, so I know exactly what you mean.  I had her in day care for a week and a half after I got home.  She just couldn't grasp the concept that she could not jump up on me whenever she wanted or be picked up on a whim.  So, I put her in daycare and she was able to play with her little friends all day and my husband was able to help me in the evening.
