HI *waves* I'm new here
Hello,
Dropping in to introduce myself.. I joined OH a couple of weeks ago and have been getting familiar with the site and decided it was time to drop in and say Hi *offers tea and coffee all around*
I'm in the "gathering records" stage... all complete except for the "mental evaluation" *rolls eyes* which I will be calling to make arrangements for on monday and then it's off to the insurance for review *crosses fingers*. I live in Grand Rapids and will be going to Hurley for my surgery by Dr. Farhan and I've chosen the RNY. I've thought about wls for 10 years but wasn't in a hurry to change anything. I had a "wakeup call" moment last december and since the first of the year have been working overtime to do what's neccessary to make this happen...
I'm currently on 20 different meds... 11 insulin injections a day = 360+ units daily with readings still in the 300's *bleah
* I've been making a lot of changes in preparation for wls and they've been paying off.. since January I've lost almost 60 lbs and am now able to walk almost 3 miles on my good days...3 months ago I could barely walk a block! Progress is GOOD!
I'm still researching and gathering all information and tips/advice I can get my hands on especially post-op tips/advice/information so if ya wanna drop in and share some information with me I would love that. *makes sure the coffee/tea pot is always full and hot* Thanksbunches
Queensized -~*but not for much longer...that's rapidly changing*~

Hi there, I am fairly new also. I am going to have it done, and I am approved, without a date yet! scheduler is behind on appts? etc?? Im hoping its between my classes I am taking so I think it will be between aug. 25th, thru sept 25th. I am off school then... I look for info too. but if your antything like me, its just too much to read the "stuff gone bad that happens soooo rarely". it seems to do me in for a day. then I lose focus and perspective of everything..
Hey that is awsome on your weight loss! yeay! keep it going! the hardest part, seems getting a really good start I suppose, and finishing it,,
Take care, welcome,
ann.
Welcome friend,

Sleep apnea going away as well. You are about to join a whole new healthier better feeling world my friend! Congrat on that great weight loss so far! Wishing you the best.. Hugs, Judy R
P.S. Think of a new nickname (Queensized) won't work long after surgery..
Thank you Everybody for all the encouragment! I am so glad to hear all the great stories.
Qualitygrrl, I know it's saddening to read the stories but at the same time it is helpful for I need to know in the back of my head that these things can happen and therefore I need to be aware of them.. that yes, most likely things will go great.. but..at the same time I have to be aware of the possiblity that it won't so I will be prepared to accept it if *heaven forbid* something goes wrong. I put myself into the hands of God and if he wishes me to do this then obstacles will be removed and all will be will.
Thank you Ozlady.. I was very fortunate in that my wakeup didn't turn out to be anything serious but it was a wakeup by the fact that it could have easily been very serious.... A year ago I couldn't walk up the flight of stairs into my apartment without enduring bad chest pains and serious shortness of breath... since heart disease is VERY strong in my family it was suspected that I was forming heart disease... In November I went through a stress-test , echo-cardiogram and the whole nine-yards... results were "inconclusive".. don't ya love that word...so I had to have a Catherization...with my family history I was 98% certain that something would be found...THANK GoD! the catherization went well *quoting my cardiologist here* "everything looked Beautiful", and I have nothing to worry about..."YET".....That was my wake up/shake up... and I felt like I had been given a second chance to do something and I had better take advantage of it.. that's when I seriously started listening to the Dietician and following her advice and making changes and decided that I needed help.. I needed a tool to help make that change.. that I needed a "physical Intervention" and approached my Insurance company to find out what I needed to do to get authorization.
And as far as my nickname...I already have one that my Fiance calls me by and I will change to it probably soon after the surgery but of course the name Queensized will still fit.. for while I won't be Queensized in body anymore I will just exchange that for a Queensized Attitude...LOL My Fiance has always said I am a Brat and he is finding that as I lose more and more weight I am getting sassier and brattier
and He is starting to realize that he is going to have his hands full....LOL But He is also loving it.. I am soo blessed to have a wonderful man in my life and even more so to have the even more wonderful son I have. I really threw my Fiance for a loop and also made him the happiest man in the world when we went for my consultation in June... Over a Year ago He asked me to marry him and I told Him I couldn't give Him an answer at that time for I wasn't ready... I told Him that if he could be patient then He would know when I was ready to give Him an answer and He would know what it was at that time without having to ask me again.... He has waited so patiently and never asked me again for He knew if He did I would say No, just out of stubborness and the fact that He wasn't patient... Well... I had to fill out a big questionairre that Dr Farhan's office sent me and there was one page I wouldn't let Him read.... The question was if there is a time frame by which you want to have lost most of your weight and what is the reason.... I wrote down.. 2 years from February of 2006... the reason.. So I could wear a "skinny wedding dress" My fiance finally got a chance to read that page while at the consultation and when He did, He stoppped...looked at me and asked... "are you serious?".. I just looked at him calmly and said "yes"... I thought he was going to explode right then....LOL He whooped and hollared to wake the dead...LOL
Did a raid on the local library today and came home with several books on wls and recipe ideas for afterwards... gotta start making up recipes for the Fiance to follow after surgery.. for He has agreed to do ALL the cooking for at least 6 months after surgery..whoohooo Damn I love that man...LOL
