Stomach/back pain

I had RNY March 2005 with a loss of 190 pounds. I am loving my new lease on life, but over the last month I have had increasing upper back/stomach pain. I thought it was due to a pulled muscle. But it is worse after I have gone to bed. I wake up shortly after going to sleep with gas-like spasms every night. I lie on one side or the other. The pain is worse on the left. Gallbladder is on the right? It does not seem to matter if I have eaten or not. Sometimes it hurts when my stomach is empty. Anything sound familiar to anyone?

I'm not a doctor but, it sounds like gallbladder attacks.   When i had mine i sweated like crazy, and the pain went from my stomach around to my back.....very sharp pain.....i would say worse than labor pains.    Mine got so bad that in the end they ended up doing emergency surgery cause the attack wouldn't go away cause a stone was stuck.....get checked soon and let me know how it goes.....i would go to the e.r. next time if i were you. Thanks,  Linda.  On Tuesday (had the day off for a breast biopsy)  I got a script from my Dr. for two gallbladder tests in case it did not go away in 2-3 weeks!  I went this morning to get the ultrasound.  The other test must be done Mon-Fri with an Appt.  I feel better just knowing that the one test was done.  I will call Monday to see about the other one.  No way can I keep this up for another 2-3 weeks.  It has already been a month!  Cathy

You're welcome.    Be careful what you eat, food and milk seemed to trigger the attacks for me.  It had to be very bland.     Do you have any pain meds for it?   I would definately go to the emergency room next time, the pain isn't worth it.    Hope you're feeling better soon. Linda

Sounds like gallbladder to me too!  I would go to ER if it gets too bad.....I remember how painful it is.  Keep in touch. Tracey

I had my gallbladder taken out 11 months post op.  Never really had any pain, except when I ate potatoes (fixed anyway).  That was the trigger for my surgeon to order tests.  Just a thought.  Good luck!

The girls have given you and idea as to what your problem may be I say the best move is to call your doctor and get checked. Pain is an indicator that something is wrong and needs attention. Call your doc and make the appointment. kp
