I'm contemplating either the lap band or the DS.   How long does it typically take from first appointment to a scheduled surgery date?  Also, I see that Dr. Pleatman makes his patient's quit smoking first.  Is this true?  I just dont want to wait the 6months before he will do my surgery. Also, is there mandatory aftercare with Dr. Pleatman or Dr. Lutre???  I want the surgery dont laprascopically. Thank you for helping a newbie!

The reason they make you quit smoking is the fear of ulcers.  Does this mean that everyone stays quit?  No, I've seen people go back and a couple years down the road wonder why their stomach hurts and they have an ulcer.  Others, it doesn't bother them.  They also say that smoking inhibits your healing.  My plastic surgeon would not operate if you were a smoker.  You had to be quit at least 6 months.  If you're serious about this surgery, you need to make the commitment to stop smoking.  It's the second best thing that will happen for your body.
