Tomorrow's the Day!
Hello:
I go for surgery tomorrow morning. Have to be to Flint by 7:00AM, and surgery is at 9:30AM. Just getting everything around and visiting with friends and family. Not to much else to do. Now hopefully I'm in a good enough level of Ketosis. I have some strip I've been testing with and it fluctuates daily, but I range from semi-moderate to moderate and sometimes even semi-heavy. Not sure if that's acceptable, but it should be.
On another note, my mother is having trouble with anemia, and was wondering if there were any studies done on post-operative patients, or ways to deal with it. She has trouble with the vitamins. She’s just looking for as much information as possible.
Thanks
Kev
Wishing you the very best on your surgery. We lived in Sebewaing until July of this year, now we're in Oklahoma. I'd suggest making sure you have a pillow for your long car ride home!!! And dont do it all at once. Stop at least once or twice on the way home and just get out of the car and walk around a bit. And of course ask for pain meds right before you leave the hospital, if you tell them you have a long drive home, they should be pretty good about giving you something!!
As for anemia. Its a common problem. First I'd start by chaging the kind or iron she's taking. Make sure she's taking vitamin c with her iron, it helps the body absorb it. I hear they can do iron shots. I personally had to get iron infusions as I didn't absorb any of the iron in my supplements.
Kev-
Good luck with surgery tomorrow! I just had my surgery on Wed. Mine is different so it's hard to compare the pains and the things you will go through, but definately get up and walk as soon and as often as you can. No one really told me about the gas pain that I would experience, (and I'm not sure how much different it is for RNY patients) but walking really helped. Good luck and you will be in my prayers tomorrow!!

Hey all!
I came back home thurday, and I guess I'm doing pretty good. I woke up with my breathing tube in....got some pneumonia....had a disagreement with morphine. After everything was fixed up I started doing pretty good. I was on the burn floor at Hurley in Flint and I saw people much much worse off than I. Most everyone was nice but there's nothing like home, a hug and kiss, and nice warm bed. Oh yeah, peppermint green tea is the stuff. On another note, the internist I spoke with said I have more than enough elastin in my skin, so with some toning I shouldn't need plastic surgery!
thanks for the support,
Kev
