HELP!!!!! After almost a year an a 1/2 I finally recieved my Medicare Ins.  On Dec 1, 2007 I called Oakwood Hosp. in Dearborn and was politely told that at this time they weren't accepting any patients with Medicare, I then call AMBI and to my surprised was not immediately turned away. Great for me right....here's the kicker I was told that I needed to get my medical record from my previous doctor.  About 12 yrs ago I had a gastric bypass in Hudson Mi with a Dr. Galupo. I tried to locate Dr. Galupo with no luck, now i'm stuck, I don't know how or where to get started I've hit a brick wall i've even called Social Security to see if they had my previous medical records (because of the weight 415lbs) I was on disability.  SSA was nice enouh to send me a CD with my medical records, but it only went back 2 yrs. I'm so frustrated that I haven't made the appt to even see the medical doctor.  Does anyone know how I can go about getting my medical records from over 10 yrs ago..... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

Hi Pattik, I am pretty sure the Bariatric Center in Addison/Hudson is no longer in business but I did a search for your Dr. Galupo.  All I could find was this... Dr. Pedrito Galupo, MD 324 West High St. Bryan, Ohio 43506 No phone number was listed, and this physician practices general surgery and family medicine. There should be records for you -somewhere- and Dr. Galupo may have taken them with him when he changed practices.  I hope this helps. I am from Michigan and when I originally started my research into bypass surgery, I tried calling the clinic in Addison because it was closer to my home than Detroit, and was told they no longer practice bariatric surgery.  The building and sign are still there.(I was in Michigan last week and saw it) Good luck. If you're unable to get your medical records, you might want to go to Henry Ford Hospital's bariatric surgery program in Detroit.  I know for a fact that they accept Medicare for the surgery, because that's how I had it.  They did not ask me for a decade's worth of medical records, however I didn't have WLS before I had it with HF.  But maybe they would be willing to help you.  The office's phone number is (313) 916-9782.

Good luck!!

Patti, I don't think that private physicians in Michigan have to keep their records for more than 7 years.  However, you should be able to  get the surgical records from the hospital where the surgery was done.  Any new surgeon will what to know exactly what was done in the original gastric bypass. Call ABMI back and ask them if those records would do. Jeanne
