Went to my Dr appointment yesterday. They gave me my presurgical instructions for this week.  Under additional instructions Drink 1 1/2 oz of Fleets Phosphate soda at 12:00 noon and 1 1/2 oz again at 6:00 pm the day before surgery. Oh and the nurse said to make sure I'm not too far from a toilet when I do. OK time for everyone to feel sorry for me. Should make for an interesting drive to Traverse City for me. OK so this post wasn't a more serious post for me. But I guess I the thought never crossed my mind that they would need me to umm be empty.... lol Only one more week to go.

LOL When they say stay close to the toilet? That's an understatment! Good Luck on your upcoming surgery!

I don't want to scare you, but I would want to know if I were you, so please check out this site for information on problems with the Fleets product:  http://www.pritzkerlaw.com/Phosphate_Nephropathy/ Possibly there are other alternatives your surgeon can prescribe.

Staying close to a toilet is the best option.  However, I was on complete liquids for several days prior to having to do this step.  So it's really not that bad and there isnt really that much to empty out if you are on liquids.  Good luck on your upcoming surgery. Michelle

You asked why I didn't have surgery in Traverse City. Nothing against the doctors, just that when I had my surgery Priority Health would only approve me at MMPC in Grand Rapids. I have only heard good things about all the doctors at Grand Traverse Surgery. I'm sure you are in good hands.  If I was having surgery today there would be no doubt in my mind and I would also choose surgeons here in Traverse City. No worries for you. Good luck on surgery day and your drive over. Depending on which way you go there are some stretches without bathrooms for quite awhile. We usually go old State Road. Lynn

Hi, I also live on the east side of the state and had Dr. Slikkers for my surgeon. I stayed in a motel in T.C. the night before.  And am I glad I did. You really do need a toilet close by. Also, I would suggest some of those cottonelle moist wipes and/or some tucks.  Not trying to scare you but those are some of the things I wished I would have had with me at the time. Dr. Slikkers is great.  Follow all of the instructions and everything will be fine. Best of luck and welcome to the losers bench! Joni
