The choice
Thank you all so much for your input. I too and considering RNY vs. the band. When my sister had her band, she was about 1 year out and it slipped so she had to go back in plus the fills, and it just seems that the dumping would put me in my place. I know my insurance does cover both, so I am thankful for that :) Thanks again...

I went to the weight loss surgery seminar convinced that I would have the Lap Band. After listening to the surgeon talk about all of the surgery options, I realized that Lap Band would not work for me as I have a terrible sweet tooth and needed the restriction of dumping syndrome.
I had a BMI of 62 and knew that I needed to get the weight off quickly.
I considered the DS but my surgeon had not done many at that time and my insurance would not cover it. I do believe that the DS is a great alternative but it was not in the cards for me at that time.
The sleeve was really just starting to be done when I had my surgery and it was presented to me as a surgery type for people who didn't need to lose as much weight as I needed to lose. I see now that it is an option for many. I've met several people who have had wonderful success with it. My mother is considering the VSG.
I'm very happy that I chose to have RNY when I did. I might still be waiting if I had chosen the DS.
