From another board -
www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_grads/a,messageboard/action,r eplies/board_id,5491/cat_id,5091/topic_id,3671392/

She had it together and was a strong advocate.
Unfortunately she lost to people that didn't understand. She was 3.5 years out and still ran into trouble. It happened to me at 2 years but I knew what was going on and my surgeon was on the phone with the hospital. I was lucky.

Wow, that is tragic!  Any doctor should know to do a CT of the abdomen.  I guess it really depends on the symptoms she presented with.  We should all think twice about carrying a medical alert card and/or wear a bracelet.  This should alert any medical staff to be aware of our smaller stomachs and that the intestinal track is different.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

This is indeed sad. My heart & prayers go out to her family & friends.
Thanks KP for keeping us on track and remembering that this  WLS is a journey and not just an event.

Wow....last summer was when I had my blockage too and I was 3 1/2 years post op as well.  I can't even imagine what her family is going through.  What would I have done without you KP??

This one made me think. I've been counting what I eat and when. I count the chews. I make sure it's right before it goes down. I'm still in the groove.

It had never occurred to me that if we don't chew well enough, it could possibly cause a blockage.  Thank you for putting this out there.  Yet another reason to follow the lifelong rules.

WOW!
How sad! I am almost 3 years out and have been having some issues like this. My surgion is on top of it but I can see how something like this could happen if you were in a hospital that didn't know how to deal with Bariatric Patients. Need to have emergency contact imformation with your surgeion and hospitals information on it so calls can be made when they need to.

I have seen her around the boards and have spoke with her a couple of times. This is such a shock. And also a wake up call. We really need to remember that we are lifetime patients of this and we need to be advocates for our aftercare... We need to maintain contact with our surgeons.

Thanks for posting this KP

I will keep the family in prayers.... What a tragedy....  I am sure she will be missed by many.  I would never imagine such an outcome so far out from surgery.... It really makes me think twice about everything I do every day now....

Exactly my point. For those who think they are free from problems think again. Our digestive system is the product of years of evoltion and when it is messed with balances change. Keeping the balance in mind will help you stay alive.
Unfortunately not all will be able to see this. I have blocked a number of people on the MI from reading or commenting on my posts.
