How terrible.  It happened to me last May and I am still dealing with issues.  I had a tumor hidden under my small intestine and it ruptured.  Went to the ER and had emergency surgery that night, the surgeon was only able to get 80% of the tumor at that time.  Then...I got infected and was in the hospital for a month on IV antibotics.

2 months later...I got a hernia and had another round of surgery to repair the hernia and remove the other 20% of the tumor.  I was off work for 6 months.

Now....I have another hernia and having that repaired next Tuesday.  Some doctors are saying its from the RYN 5 years ago and some are saying I could have had the tumor for years and it just now started to give me trouble.

Who knows!  The good news, I have lost 150 pounds and have kept it off for 5 years.  I thank g-d I had the surgery 5 years ago because it saved my life.

That sounds pretty rough indeed. Good that you are taking care of it.
Positive vibes your way.

How terribly sad. Hopefully sharing this tragic event with all of us might save someone down the road. Without sounding too ignorant, is it safe to say that if we continue to eat slow and chew our food thoroughly that we can avoid a blockage or is there more to it than that? Thanks for the guidance.

Hi,
We can get an obstruction at any time. Even normals can get them although the probability is less for them.
Chewing, eating slow, small bites and watching the texture of your food are all things to help prevent. I think keeping waterin our system is probably the most important. It lubricates the intestines and helps move digesting food through.
I tell people if they are constipated and or have a lot of gas (more than normal for a GAP) then they are not doing one or more of the things above.

I posted this as an eye opener for us. She knew the ropes better than most and she still had problems. It is sad indeed.
