Anemic - Need advice

I just found out on Monday that I am anemic.  My doctor wants to order more tests and explore things further, given that I am a bariatric patient and then hopefully I will know more about what is going to be done.  I found about three weeks ago that I bruise very easily.  My legs look terrible!  Some I know (or think I know) how they came about.  Others I have no clue.  I just look and there is a new one.  Same as my arms and my hands.  It's crazy, but yet scarey.  Another clue was that I have been so tired lately, despite having my B12 shots every other week.  And being tired lately has been noticed by my friends also.

Anyways, I was told that I am in the 'mild' stages of being anemic.  That my iron is low, but not really, really low.  Anyone know what they may or may not do???  Just looking for a heads up.

Thanks!

I was amenic and I had to have a 5 hour iron infusion done to bring up my iron levels. I also take between 500 and 1000 miligrams of iron a day.  I was told by my docltor that it is common for bariatric patients to watch out of anemia.  Good luck with your tests.  Tricia

HEY LADY! Anemic? Me too... Which made my surgeon really happy post-op. :) But I'm taking an over the counter slow release iron from Walmart (so I don't get those pesty iron-related side effects) and it has already brought my iron up in just a week. I'll give you a call later today (since 3:46 am is a bit on the early side) and we can chat. Hope you feel better soon!

I found out I was anemic in year 2 ... my iron stores were also very low. I have to take iron plus Vitamin C, which aids in the absorption of the iron. I also bruise very easily, but I did that pre-op (and I was anemic then too ... but that was due to heavy menstrual periods ... can't blame that anymore). Some foods with high iron are spinach and raisins (there are others too, but those are some I eat regularly ... also good for fiber). I love adding fresh spinach to my salads.
