my new life has begun

Hello everyone!   This is Ryan's mom.  He wanted me to let everyone know his surgery went well.  Took about 1 1/2 hours and he was a real trooper.   They were not able to do both procedures (duodenal switch and sleeve)  that he wanted to have done, due to the intestines would not stretch like they needed them to.... so he just had the sleeve gastrectomy.    The doctors said it went extremely well and he should lose about 150 pounds in a year.  That will put him about 10 lbs from his goal that he set for himself.   He was in quite a bit of pain when he first came back to his room but within 2 hours his  "happy medicine was working wonderful" his pain level went down to a 5 on the pain scale from a 12 and when I left his side last night it was down to a 3 and he was up walking the hall  (the complete length of it) all within in 4 hours after he left the recovery room.  The doctor stopped in late last night and said he should be able to come home Sunday if nothing comes up in the testing of the upper GI he will have done this morning.  I am sure he will check in with everyone by the beginning of the week.   Thanks for being such a great support system for him!!!!!!!!!!

Hugs to you all
Cherie  (Ryan's mom)

Tell Ryan, welcome to the loser's bench.  I'm glad everything went so well.  He now needs to do lots of walking and lots of sipping.  Way to go Ryan and Dr. Foote.
