Pre-TT supplements
I was told to stop taking my Multi Vites and whey protein 2 weeks before surgery. I know that the multis have vitamin E in them, so I can understand that. Has anyone been told to stop using protein supplements before surgery?
The PA that did my pre-surgery physical said they have a computer program that matches what you are taking with potentially dangerous supplements and whey came up. Just curious why this would be.

Hey you
Not sure why they would have told you that. I was told to increase my protein supplements prior to surgery because it helps with the recovery time... And it helps build up your strength.. Maybe you can try a different supplement for that period of time... Do some online research to see what that says too.
I know that things are always different with various surgeons.. Maybe you can message Carey and see what she says... She deals with it everyday. Just a suggestion.
I hope your doing okay. Thanks for the note on facebook. I appreciate it.. I am anxious to see how your TT is going to come out.. Your going to be such a hotty afterwards..
Hugs

Hey Brenda,
I agree - that is odd. I've always heard the doc say to increase protein. But I would check with your facility. I remember hearing of a patient that had a rough recovery and it was due to her protein being so low. Keep up with doing your cardio, it will help with your stamina and recovery.

Alrighty....here's the word from U of M:
Vitamins K and E can both have an effect on the blood's abilty to clot if taken in large doses. This is why I have to stop taking my multi two weeks before surgery. Some protein supplements are enriched with vitamins, so to be safe, they say stay away from those as well. As I said before, they have software that matches your meds and supplements with those that should be restricted before surgery. They give everyone this same information.
I'm going to just up my protein with food beginning two weeks before surgery.
So now we know!
