Post Mexico Surgical Care
It may help people to respond if they knew where in Michigan you were??
~ I am the proud wife of a Guatemalan, but most people call me Kimberley
Highest Known Weight = 370# / 59.7 bmi @ 5'6"
Current Weight = 168# / 26.4 bmi : fluctuates 5# either way @ 5'7" / more than 90% EWL
Normal BMI (24.9) = 159#: would have to compromise my muscle mass to get here without plastics, so this is not a goal.
I my DS. Don't go into WLS without knowing ALL of your options: DSFacts.com
Yes. My Primary Care Physician has been great and will follow up on my labs and general care.
I was more concerned about a specialist in the event complications develop (blockages, etc.)
I don't expect any...so far things have gone great....but I don't want to find myself in the midst of an emergency without a plan.
The more I read about emergency room mishaps and misdiagnosis, the more I'm feeling I need to have an established relationship with a local bariatric surgeon.

I had surgery on 1/09 and have not had any complications. I feel I received excellent care. I took the extra precaution of enrolling in the Doc's emergency fund which would have covered any additional procedures that may have come up during surgery and immediately afterward. Fortunately, I didn't need it, but it was nice to have the reassurance.
All things being equal.....I'd do it again!! It turned out to be the best approach for me and my family. (Recouperating in the sun and by the ocean certainly had it benefits...LOL)
I've been told that the risk of complications beyond 4 weeks are few for VSG, so I'm pretty much past that hurdle. But, I'm on a mission to have the name of a local surgeon "on file" to quiet the "worrier" in me. I'd like to enjoy my weight loss and stop worrying about "what will I do if....."
All else fails, I guess, I could always go back to Mexico.....
