Have any of you used Dr.Poplawski in Holland Michigan or Dr.Foote in Grand Rapids? Are you happy with your choice if you have used either one?
Have any of you had the new Endobarrier procedure?
Ooops I guess that is 3 questions

Endobarrier is a new procedure which a "tube" is place through the mouth and is placed in the first 2 feet of the small intestine (same place that is bypassed in gastric bypass). The barrier prevents food being absorbed the in that area which is where most of the absorption takes place. I guess the best way to describe it is a non-surgical gastric bypass surgery. Since everything is done through the mouth there is not as much of a chance for complications etc.
They wrote about it in this months Popular Mechanics in an article I think was called bluring the line between medicine and biology.

I heard about this in a quick blurb on a new segment. I didn't catch the name of it but I was very much interested in learning more about it. Thanks for the name of the procedure.

The Endobarrier is still in clinical trials, so don't expect to see it universally available for several years.  And then don't expect insurance to cover the procedure for another several years after that, I'm sure.

Dr Foote is my surgeon(but I live in Holland)-I had the duodenal switch last July. LOVE him & his staff!! The Holland bariatric center isn't covered thru my insurance so I had to go to a Center of Excellence. I've briefly heard of that new procedure but do either of those surgeons perform it?

I also had Dr. Foote (RNY 8/5/08) and adore him and his staff!

I also had Dr. Foote and he has been great through this whole process.

A majority of his office staff is also really great. I know there have been a few issues with call backs, etc, but I think part of that is the set up of the new office.

I have heard him talk about a new procedure that he was starting to do. But it sounds like it was being mainly done in Mexico and not the US yet.
