Hey Jan,

I was a type 2 diabetic for years before surgery.  I haven't had to have anything for diabetes since surgery.  My A1c before surgery was 8.3, since surgery I've been 5.2 and 5.3!!!

I eat fruit everyday.  If I'm having a snack I'll have some vege's, say carrots, peppers...and some fruit, cherries, strawberries...  I don't always have protein w/ it.  I just make sure I have enough protein in my daily diet.

As someone mentioned, the first few months are a learning curve, your body will tell you what you can and cannot handle, listen to it.

Any questions, ask away, we're here for you.

Hey all,

Wow what a busy weekend.  The only thing that would have made it perfect would be a few degrees higher, it was a bit nippy yesterday w/ the wind.  The only time I was warm was when I was schlepping mulch (but then I am the mulch queen).

Q:  I love a good book.  I stick  to the foo foo books as I call them, Nora Roberts, Iris Johanssen, Catherine Coulter.....I'm actually reading Catherine Coulter right now.

Deb thanks for the recommendation, I'll look for it down the road.  I have a few books to get through right now.  But I love a recommendation of someone I don't normally read.

Have a great soggy (good for the plants) day!

Edie

I’m drinking water and Minute Maid Light 5 calorie lemonade… I’m on my liquid diet for pre-op now, and it sucks lol… I’m sticking faithfully to it because I know I have to, but I already miss chewing food lol… One more week to go and I’ll be on the other side of my RNY surgery process!

QOTD-Any good books you've read lately?   I read a lot, but lately I’ve been reading WLS for Dummies, Nutrition for Dummies, and I’m tackling a book called Wrestling for MMA that has exercises/drills in it. Pretty interesting and I’m trying to keep myself busy and my mind occupied for this last week before surgery, so anything that makes me think and gets me up and moving is better than just sitting and letting my mind wander.

Good luck with your WLS.  I'll be joining the group in two months.  I'm scheduled for August 10.  I'm having a hard time keeping carbs down in my diet.  I'm still in the last real meal mode.  It's going to be hard.  I don't know why so many people say we're taking the easy way out.

Carbs are hard for me NOW.  I have never been a sugar person, but love my carbs.  There actually is a "carb detoxifying" period that you go through.  If you are reducing your carbs, you get carb withdrawal, and you WANT them.  After a few days, it reduces significantly.

I try to keep my carbs below 60 for the day.  So I eat lots of protein, then my veggies.  The days I have watermelon, I have to measure it out and make sure I track it.

We had a potluck here at work today and you should have seen all the pasta salads, bags of chips, etc.  I allowed myself ONE potato chip and walked away!  I also had ham and a bean/chicken chili.

It is hard now because you aren't restricted and have feelings of hunger.  Your "last meal mode" is something everyone has gone through too - its normal.  2 more months to wait?  Have you called and asked to be moved up in case someone cancels/doesn't qualify?

Oh yaaa, you can trust I've asked to be moved up.  My surgeon said I was a good candidate for the move up list since I qualified for wls more for my co-morbidities than my weight.  Unfortunately today I'm already at 93.8 carbs.  Looks like cottage cheese for me for the rest of the day.
I'm planning on spending maybe six weeks in Interlochen this summer.  I'm going to try to make it up there the end of June.  Maybe, maybe not.  We have a wedding to attend June 27th down here, so I have to be here for that.  Definatly I'll be up there for the month of July.  I'm trying to get hubby to come up for two weeks, but who knows if he'll be able totake his vacation then.  If I'm alone it'll be easier to focus on mostly protien and not have too many carbs in the house.

Good Afternoon everyone-
I feel so behind...have to catch up with everyone's posts.  Nick has pneumonia, so we were at U of M in the ER all day yesterday.  Not a fun way to spend a Sunday.

I like to read, but don't find a lot of time too.  I used to make a weekly visit to the library, but then I kept forgetting and paying fines and it became another dreaded item on my "to-do" list, so I quit.
I like girly chick lit....Devil Wears Prada type of books.  I did read the Twilight series so I could see what all the hoopla was about.  I also read a lot of parenting and cook books.

Hope you all have a good day...dodge the raindrops!

I hope Nick is on antibiotics and on the road to recovery.  Not a fun way to spend any day.
Good thoughts coming your way.
