Like Jodi said different situations, ie: medical conditions, side effects (rashes, diabetes...) insurance companies.... get different answers. Your goal should be to find a Dr. who will help you get this approved through your insurance. But I do have to warn you that finding a good plastic guy/girl who takes Medicade may be VERY difficult, by the way the important word in that sentence is 'good', just a hint.
But really the reason I came to respond to your post at all is to say that I'm sorry your hubby has lost his job, this economy does suck!
Good luck,

Topic: RE: No Mid-Michigan Support Groups?
Do you know if they will take people that didn't go through their system? I was going to go through them, but they had an incredible hurdle to overcome for me. They had a mandatory meeting, workout, weigh in thing that couldn't work with my non traditional work schedule.

Pam, thanks for all that. I want a local group and I will have to check with Sparrow as in another reply I've received. I can get together with my surgeon's group and will, but I was looking outside this group for greater perspectives. I will have to start having a meeting at my restaurant just a friends roundtable approach and then get with a plan as we see what interest there is.
Congrats on the book, there is a local book called "The Real Skinny on Weight Loss Surgery". I wasn't aware of this boo****il my brother told me about it, because he was mentioned in the foreward for contributions. It was written by two ladies and they reflect on their individual ups and downs along with the obstacles they had. Nicely written with a relaxed tone. They are both involved with the OAC Obesity Action Coalition that deals with Obesity discrimination now and I looked them up on the web. Man I had it easy compared to other individuals and states rules. Alabama tried to say if you were obese that you couldn't dine out in a restaurant.
I know I ramble on some of these sites so hope I didn't bore you.
Good luck with the writing!

There are several support groups at the Sparrow Weight Management Center.

Have you talked to Grand Health Partners in Grand Rapids? They have several surgeons and work out of 2 offices. They have a great practice. Good luck!

I have no idea... but I would recommend calling Robbie at Dr DiNick's office in Novi. They handle lots of insurances, and I'm sure they can help answer your question.
You may want to let them know your situation and you can't even begin to explore plastics until you know whether they Medicaid will cover it (if they take it at all).
Some may recommend calling Medicaid and asking, but when I called my insurance and talked to them about "reconstructive surgery", they said no, but they did cover it. (just the panni - nothing else). Wouldn't hurt to try though.
If its giving you medical issues - that could be another thing. I know someone who had so much extra skin on her chest that it was causing the muscle to separate from the chest wall. Some people get back problems with the extra skin, etc. Ins may cover then.
Good luck!

Topic: Plastic surgery question

Hi ya'll,
Since I had my surgery, my husband lost his job which meant I lost our insurance which I was counting on to get my excess skin removed. I have been approved for Medicade (I have neuropathy) since then.
I don't know if Medicade will cover any of this, if there is any way I can get Medicade to cover it.
Do any of you have Medicade or know what I can do to get this extra skin taken off?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
God Bless,
Tari

Topic: RE: Still Deciding
Hi, I'm in the same spot you are... I have researched a ton and still can not decide between the VSG and RNY. I keep going back and forth. I do know I definitely want to make the right decession the first time and its a hard one. I have done my first consult and pysch eval, but I have to do the 6 mths nutrition before I can be approved. Guess I have alot of time to make my mind up! Good luck and keep us posted!
