I won't address which kind of surgery is best, but I would hope that you will look at several different providers in southeaster Michigan.  I would suggest that you look into Michigan Bariatric Institute at St Mary in Livonia (click on my surgeon's name) as they are now offering various choices in surgery.  No charge to go to the information seminar and it is VERY through.

Best wishes!

Good job on the current loss, the habits you are developing will serve you well.  No matter which surgery you have, you will be keeping up the exercise and good eating habits the rest of your life, or face regain. (Cold truth from 4.5 years out).

The grim truth is that the surgical equipment is made at a particular size and that limits it's use.  Surgical tables, hospital beds, all those things have limits.  This is the physical restriction.  Also, anesthesiologists have restrictions for your safety.  This is major surgery and puts a grave risk on your whole body.

I know that when I made up my mind, I wanted it NOW.  This in between time will let you get more informed and more ready for the wild ride.

Best wishes on your journey!

Thanks I have been to all the meetings and have been approved by my insurance. I have been meeting with Doctor Slickers with the grand traverse Beriatric center. He said I have everything I need to have surgery but that I need to be 450. Just very frustrated I have figured that I am going to stick with him and the diet because if I switch to some other place it will take atleast 2 months or more and I am sure I can lose the weight by then. Just can't wait to get some help losing weight.
Thanks Brent

Hi Pam,

Thanks for taking the time to post.  I am disappointed you will not be able to attend, but as I mentioned, my goal is to make this an annual event, so perhaps same time next year!

Take care and hope to meet you in the future.

Look forward to meeting you!

I am also pleased to announce that WLSFA and Bariatric Support centers have agreed to sponsor the event.  Bless them for all they contribute to the Bariatric community.

It may be the first WLS Buckeye event however my goal is to make it an annual event and want to make it fun, educational and a provide a great way to meet our fellow WLS friends!!!

Hi Terri

How exciting! Thanks for posting here on the Michigan forum for us too. I'll actually be in Ohio on April 30th for a conference (in Columbus) -- but unfortunately I'll actually be AT the conference during the time of the meet and greet.

Have fun!
Pam

 Good morning!

WOW! Congratulations on the great weight loss so far! You're doing awesome! Have you spoken to a surgeon at Musion yet? If not, I recommend you go to a seminar (most hospitals have one) or at least call for an appointment. They might be willing to work with you based on your commitment to the program so far. Plus... you don't want to take anyone's word for it about what their policies are on weight limits - find out from them directly.

Also, have you contacted your insurance company yet to find out which surgeries they cover and what the criteria is for approval? I have a post on my blog with the steps you need to take as you being the WLS process - it might give you some direction: http://pamtremble.blogspot.com/2010/05/are-you-thinking-about-having-weight.html

Of course I have to plug the Brooksie Way, right? www.TheBrooksieWay.com

Registration is discounted right now too! You can register for the 5k, of course. But if you start training now you'll be ready for the half marathon by October!  And when you go to pick up your packet, you can stop by the awesome Fitness Expo and see my handiwork and come visit me there too!
