Hello everyone, I was wondering how long it should take or does it take to drink an 8 oz glass of water post op?? I can drink it in a few min and was wondering if this was fairly normal? I hear people saying they can only drink a few ounces without total fill up. I am only about 1 week post op and was wondering how much and how fast everyone else drinks fluids.. do fluids just pass thru faster?? I have yet to have any food so I only have the liquid question Thanks Ed

Ed, That fluid runs on through and doesn't really Hang around long enough to keep you "full" at all. The speed that people can take in fluid Is different as faces. Sounds pretty usual to me. This first week is Crap for almost everyone. Hang in there. It gets easier each week! Best Wishes- Dx

Hi Ed, After surgery, water tasted the best to me. Could not stand the Crystal Lite, or the Jello. Broth was good though. Dont worry, you need a lot of water to wash the toxins your body is secreting away as you lose the pounds. The fat breaks down into lots of chemicals and that smell you probably notice when you go to the bathroom is the fat being excreted. Later on, or maybe now, you may be more sensitive to even how water tastes, I was, and could only tolerate one or two brands of bottle water. Protein shakes if they are blended with a lot of ice do go down well and you will find that they are easier to drink than to eat the solid stuff. The first couple of months take a lot of time and patience, but you will feel better and better as time goes along!!!! Post when ever you have a question or concern, everyone here is great for providing support.... Cheryl (2 months out) 235/203 now.......

Ed, I haven't had any trouble drinking fluids either - especially water and tea. I was worried because I could take normal swallows and it didn't bother me. The doc assured me that we are all different and we are lucky that we don't have to "sip sip"!! Hang in there, it's changed every week for me so far! I can no longer do the protein shakes, it must be the milk, but I drink water by the gallons! LOL HUGS! Kimberly

Hey Ed! Glad to see you up and around. I am a bad one to answer this because I can chug-a-lug water!!!! And I do!!! I also can swallow horse pills! My only problem comes when the water is too cold and then it HURTS!!! My inner-workings are a bit different, tho...... Smoochies Arlies

Hey Edward, yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about being able to drink water quickly. Like Dex already said, it does go pretty much right through the newly rerouted plumbing. I was always able to drink, and these days I can chug again. Sure, I'm over a year post op but even right after surgery, say at two to three months post op I was drinking a 20 oz bottle without a problem on my way to work , that's about a 20 minute drive. I now chug about four to five good gulps before I stop and I have no problems with it. It's not advisable to do this, but hey, at times when I cut my grass, I just forget about it and do it ~Andie~
