I know a lot of people are without power but those of you that evacuated or are at home with power. Please let us know that you are okay. I did finally find out a little more about my situation. My cats are fine, THANK GOD! My house was flooded, at least the downstairs was, we had about five feet of water in our house at some time, when my husband made it over there, the water had receded but all the evidence was there, the water level left its mark on the walls. The roof was still there but missing a lot of shingles, the house next to mine the roof was off of it. The commissary, BX and the newer houses behind it are damaged pretty bad, mostly flooded. Trees down everywhere. We still have no idea when we will be able to come back home. I may lose my cruise, if the Carnival people don't have a little compassion. They have not cancelled our cruise, instead they are moving the port to somewhere in FL. My husbands second truck, the old one that we have not sold yet, was parked at our house and it floated down the street with all the other cars that were left there. But I am thankful that we are all alive, because so many people lost theres. Thank you everyone for the prayers, you all mean the world to me! Please check in so that we all will know you are okay! Hattiesburg, Jackson, Meridian, etc,etc ....... Love, Rhonda

OH Rhonda --- I'm SO glad to finally have power and be able to check on you. I've been worried about all of y'all down there. We literally JUST got the power back on (very lucky) and this is the first place I came. You've been heavily on my mind. I'm just now seeing the pictures and I must say that I'm just shell shocked. Will keep on reading the board to find out about those in Hattiesburg and Petal, etc.... Hope everyone has done as well as they could have. HUGS! Kimberly

Hey Rhonda Good to hear that your home isn't completely gone!!! I have been watching this on TV for the last 3 days and I'm shellshocked still, it's like watching a bad movie.. or hoping I would wake up and it was all a dream. The reports of the dead is what scares me. I got in touch with most of the folks I know but there are a few I didnt hear from. I want to remind everyone who has cellphones, although the cell phone voice services are down, text messages are working ( at least cingular's are ! ) so try that if you haven't heard from a friend and you're worried about. I have heard through a neighbor that our housing area has sustained "minimal damage" ... which of course, in perspective to the devastation, damage called minimal could be relative- anywhere from missing shingles to a missing roof, as long as he house stands and still has stuff in it. I am only praying for the families with missing relatives and hope those folks evacuated rather than stayed and perished The base in Pascagoula has sustained damage on the bottom floors in buildings, vehicles parked there while our guys were out on deployment, are either totalled or gone ( this is hearsay but it sounds about right ) I will try to make my way home maybe Thursday, I'll be on the phone tomorrow with the highway patrol, ms state and see when they will let us come home . I dont wanna be locked out ten miles before I get there, but I gotta try to get home. I'll update you guys as it goes. Also, there is a number for you if you want to try to find out about damages.. 800-222-6362 ,when I called them, they rerouted me to 601-360-0929. Hope this helps a little. Love u guys and TAKE CARE!!!!!! ~Andie~

Hey Andie...Do you live in Ocean Springs? We are trying to locate some friends who live there but did not evacuate...David and Cindy Clark and Harold and Faye Clark. I don't have their address here, but I will send it later. If you had their address could you check on them and let us know if they made it? June Wilson

June Yes, I'm from Ocean Springs but I am nowhere near it. We were all told to evacuate, and right now, the only few people I know who stayed tell me that the roads are impassable, with the extreme amount of debris all over streets and highways. They have urged everyone who left, to STAY where they are and not to try to get home. You can't get through. Also there is a serious shortage of drinking water and gasoline as these areas cannot be reached. Again, the ONLY thing that works right now is sending text messages to phones and back. PLEASE try to contact them that way, if they have a cellphone. Cingular phones can be reached by sending a text mssg from phone to their ten digit mobile number, you can also send a very short Email < from your email to their phone, max 160 characters, that's including the email address - send it to [email protected] ( so, it would be [email protected] if their number was 228 555 1212 ) I'm sorry I have no more info. I am out of state with very very little info. Check the sunherald.com website ( add www.) also for pictures or more info. Good luck, June~~ hope you find your relatives. ~Andie~
