Wanda,
Can you go to the base hospital there? The staples usually come out in 7 to 10 days, but you are over so really need to go ASAP to have them removed, any emergency room doctor should be able to do that for you. Eating and drinking is tough, just try little bits. The protein shakes are the best if you can use them, at first I used water to mix them and then changed to non fat milk. If you use ice to blend them like a milk shake, you can get them down. Smoothie King is expensive but good in a pinch and they go down pretty good. If you dont have the powder, go to the health store or call them. Isopure, carb free is really good. Susan Maria of BaraticEating.com also recommends this. It is vanilla but not so sweet. If you like it sweeter, you can add a little pack of splenda. It helped me thru when my stomach was so cranky. I also made homemade potato soup, no milk just very watery soup, was able to manage that too. Refried beans almost made me ill, couldnt handle it at all. Spaghetti sauce with very fine ground turkey is good, not too heavy. Later on, I tried Watermelon and was able to manage that. It seems that anything soupy was better and I could get it to go down, but still cannot tolerate things with Mayo! I also ate saltine crackers, chewed very very well. Sometimes it was the only thing I could eat, but in the first days when you are so swollen it is hard to find anything which works.
Let me know if you need more help at least I can give advice!
Love,
Cheryl
As for the food and liquid intake. DO THE BEST YOU CAN!!! Remind yourself that these are GOALS to reach. You don't just drink 96 ounces of fluid and eat 64 grams of protein for a LONG time. You work your way up to it. Main thing is get LOTS AND LOTS of fluid.....You cannot go without plenty of fluid. Glad to hear from you!
