UN-FART ...I am old....

Ok guys,,,, I Was at the gym today....seem like all my posts start that way....And there are 2 young guys tha****ch the gym in the afternoon....they are about 16... Well anyway, they talk to everyone to pass the time...and it is nice having a young fit person, who will even talk to you....anyway...They are talking to me in between sets,,,,and they start talking about a new song by "Fergie".....Well, I said, I didn't know that the Dutchess of York could sing...and they said ...Who???? So we had a little discussion about Fergie, and I found out it was not the same person,,,,, So them a few mins go by, and this song come on...and I say... Gee...This sounds like "Simon and Garfunkel".....Who???Simon GarWho??? Well, I say...look Guys...Simon and Garfunkle are the best sell duet of all times.....hold on...maybe second behind Hall and Oates...... WHO???? A lady beside me chimmed in...and said she knew who Simon and Garfunkle were...and Hall and Oates too..... She also did not know that Fergie, the dutchess...could sing.... dang I feel old...... lets see,,,,,the progression.... live performances, vinyl, 8 track, cassettes, quardrophonic sound, cd, DVD, HD, Blue Ray...Suround sound...Satalitte radio.... Does anyone do live performances anymore....since they don't perform live is that why they yip about people stealing their music..... hmmmm ok old fart rant Russ

Russ, I never thought I was that old at 38 but sometimes I wonder.  I was at work the other day and a friend and I were talking about some of our old 33's and 45's.  A young guy next to us seemed totally confused.  Seems by 45's he thought we were talking about guns but had never heard of a 33.  Looks like you left out reel-to-reel.

 I recently had that "Fergie" conversation with my 11 year old daughter. Too funny. I'll never forget the time we were at my folks house four or five years ago and my son hauled out one of my Mom's record albums and says to my daughter, "look Chloe, a giant CD". We still laugh about that one. We are definitely from a different time, my friend. Not neccessarily a bad thing. DD 

DD, I took my kids to a Fuddruckers which had all the music nostalgia on the walls, my 8 year old said, Wow, that must've been some CD player when she spotted the 33's on the wall, Ha Ha Ha  I chuckled about that for days. Right now I pretty well control their music tastes to 50s -70s music, but I can see a change coming, my oldest is 9 and is starting to branch out and listen to jungle music.  The youngest one still like's 'Dad's music.'

Hey Russ, I had that conversation with my wife also, she said it was the Duchess, LOL. Then I saw the singer Fergie and I thought, no way is that the Duchess!!!  LOL I like to listen to the 70's stuff, it's hard to imagine that these bands are like 35 years ago.  Back then I had a real car, a 1970 Cobra Torino, it wasn't a winer when I flew off the stoplight like these cars today.  Back in the day my friends and I cruised the strip between Dog N Suds and A&W, no mcdonalds or nothing.  My Cobra fit just right in with the 442s, Roadrunner, Charger R/T, Chevelle SS (never could even touch this guy), Stingray, GTO, Novas, and the rest.  Geez, I miss the good old 70's however I don't miss Disco, Leisure suits or those butt ugly wide loud ties. When I have my surgery I'm listening to Hotel California...

Thanks Sean, I remember paying 750.00 dollars for it in 1975 with 69k miles on it.  I drove the hell out of it, mostly cruising the strip and short trips of less than 100 miles.  I purchased it when I was 15 and it was my favorite room of the house for 5 years - so clean you could eat off the interior/exterior.  Then gas prices exploded (1.20 - boo hoo), and it had 106,000 miles with one transmission rebuild and 1 engine rebuild, I sold it in 1981 for 750.00 < Boo Hoo.   Now I can't even touch one like it for under 20,000.00.  I have a hard time paying 20,000 dollars for a car worth 1000.00.  LOL

Oh you young pups. I grew up on the Beach Boy, Jan and Dean and the 50's and 60's rock and roll.  My ride was a 1955 Chev Belair 3 speed and over and not much could touch that car stop light to stop light. The new singers I have no clue about. But growing older does have some advantages, grandkids and closer to retirement. Randy

 I'm with you Randy....I'm 60 and loved the Beach Boy's, Jan & Dean, Temtations, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper and so on.... I had a 64' Plymouth with Keystone Mag's, Redline tires, and a stock 16' Hurst 4 speed on the floor a tach in the dash and a 426 wedge head with a single 4 under the hood. It put out 375 hp and I loved every munite of it.....AAaaahhhhhh what memories. I think I'll shuffle into bed now put on my full face mask CPAP and drift off to La La land. It is on to the iPod now. I must admit, I had to pick one up for myself recently after getting my son one for graduation. I am now hopelessly addicted and will likely need a support group to put it down. To the other comments, being 43 I grew up during the musical dark ages known as disco. Fortunately for me, there was Elvis Costello, the Clash and a few other bright spots to get us by. Speaking of which, I downloaded several of my favorite old Elvis Costello, albums onto my iPod yesterday. (Did I mention I may have a problem developing with the iPod?) The mid to late 70's were just as bad in the automotive realm, until the RX-7's, Supra's and few others dragged the market back to performance. I still kick myself for parting with the 1967 Dodge Dart Coupe 273 V-8 4 barrel solid lifter beauty I had in college. 340 heads, with the Edlebrock intake....... ah the memories. As long as you fed it plenty of gas, it would let you feed on 1965-68 Mustangs at will! Fergie, BTW is a member of the Black Eyed Peas. Not the place to eat, it's a band. My kids help me stay with the current music, not that much of it is worth listening to.
