Hernia.....

Hi guys. Anyone here have any experience with a hernia at the incision site? I have one, it doesn't hurt at all but it is pretty distended.

I first signed up for the board in April 08 and had open RNY on 5/7/08. So far I've lost close to 170 lbs and i feel fantastic. I'm just a little worried about the hernia.

Thanks for all the support these past few months.

I had a ventral hernia repaired last month. It was a result of my RNY and complications (leak + bad infection).  I found a great (new) bariatric surgeon to do the repair and he was able to do it all laparoscopically even though it was ENORMOUS...basically the mesh covers my entire abdomen.  The first couple days after were painful because I had air trapped under my skin but the doc said to walk alot and on day 3 i spent the whole day walking and felt so much better. After a week I felt normal. 1 month post-op i was cleared for weightlifting...

No problems so far....

No, but I had a Peterson's internal hernia about a year out. That was painful but the relief was immediate with surgery. I think you'll find a lot of people who had open surgery who also had incisional hernias, who may be able to provide support.
