My latest news...

Morning Ladies! I hope you are all doing well! I thought I would share the latest with each of you regarding my upcoming appointments and surgery...

I received a bunch of bills in the mail yesterday from the endoscopy/sleep study, etc., so I wanted to make sure they were correct and also ask for a confirmation of what she told me a while back regarding my October 1 appointment.  First off, I found out that the money I owe is my deductible and should be all I owe until the surgery! That was a positive. Also, I just changed my insurance to the premium (from standard) and now will only have to pay coinsurance of 1000 maximum for the year so that is nice.  This insurance is really good, even with the standard I'd only have to pay about $1700 or so maximum, but every little bit helps. Anyway, that made me happy. So then I asked about the Oct 1 date and if I'd get insurance approval then and she said yes, more than likely when I meet with the lady who does the scheduling, she'll tell me I'm approved and will schedule the surgery.  I don't know if I told you ladies or not, but I was really hoping (back when I first started this and realized it would probably be October for the surgery) that I wanted the surgery date on October 4 which is my father's birthday. He passed away almost four years ago and since some people call that their "new birthday" I thought it would just be right.  Well, I was really hoping that I'd be a "lucky one" and get surgery scheduled that quick, but after finding out about the October 1 date, I figured it was a long shot. I asked her out right this morning and she said "no, he already has 3 scheduled that day". I was a little bummed and then realized it dosn't really matter, what is two weeks in the scheme of things-- this is a life long change and when I start losing weight it won't matter if it was October 4 or October 15. Anyway, she said the week after October 4, he is out of the office so more than likely (depending on the schedule) my surgery will be the week of October 18/19 since he does surgeries on Thursdays/Fridays...  So Alice , look out-- we might be in the hospital at the same time which would be so cool! :) So that's my news-- I thought I'd share with everyone. I guess every time I talk with the SO I feel like I am one step closer to the surgery.   Thanks for listening to me ramble!!! I hope everyone has a great weekend! -Melinda

Hi Mindy! Talk about a BLESSING!  You definitely don't want to have surgery right before your doctor goes out of town!!!!  Read my blog to see what happened to me.  It was AWFUL!  Sure they have surgeons filling in for them in their absence, but believe me, those subs have no intention of treating you for anything unless it's an emergency!  They are much too busy practicing law and covering their A(natomy) to take an active role in your treatment should you need any in your surgeon's absence.  You are MUCH better off doing it later when your surgeon will not be going anywhere.  I wish someone had told me this before I had my surgery!

Hi Melinda -

I'm so glad to hear that you're on your way. It's great to hear that your insurance will cover most of the cost for you. I'm sure that is a burden lifted.

Thanks so much for sharing your good news. We all love to have something to celebrate!

Suzanne, I remember reading your profile as to not get it around his "off" time.  He is going to be out next week so I figured he'd be back in for a while, but I guess not. You are right though that he be here in case there are problems... I'm okay with the *possible* date. It's still not official yet, but seems like that is when it will be. Alice, I think you are right! :)  We need to meet sometime soon. Where do you live in Winterville? PM me.. :) Thanks for the post ladies. It helps so much to have your support. I tell DH all the time that the "ladies on OH said this" and "they recommend this for after the surgery."  he thinks it's great!!! Have a great weekend if I don't "see" you guys!!! Love, Melinda :)
