I am currently in the preop phase with Southern Surgical in Greenville, NC.  My doc is Dr. Macdonald.  If anyone here is a past patient there, can you share how much you paid out of pocket before your surgery.  I have paid $755 so far out of pocket for preop tests and still have two to go!  I'm worried that he'll ask for my coinsurance before he'll operate.  I put aside what I thought was plenty of money before I even went for my consult, but I'm quickly running out!   If he asks for the total coinsurance (which if he bills his fee after the hospital I'll be waaaay past my out of pocket max, $2500) before the surgery, I'm going to have to postpone if not cancel altogether.   This is so stressful! Any experiences to share?

Hi,  I'm sorry you're having a hard time, I know it's stressful but it is sooo worth anything I went through!  Dr. McDonald was my surgeon before he was with Southern Surgical.  He is a great doctor and knows his stuff!  I had BCBS and only had to pay $107 total (5 years ago) but I didn't have to pay for anything up front (again this was 5 years ago).  Why don't you call the office and talk with someone about it, I'm sure they'll let you know.  I'd rather know what to expect rather than get blown away at the last minute.

Best of luck!!!!!

Hey.  I have Dr. Naziri from Southern Surgical.  I have BCBS.  I had to pay the $70 co-pay for all of the pre-op stuff.  I have to come up with $1,350.00 out of pocket.  I had not met my deductible of $2500.00, but with all of the cardiology testing, it covered that.  I am still making payments on that.  I want to wish you luck.  You are going through a very stressful time right now.  All the worrying and wondering was about to get to me.  I am scheduled for surgery now.  I hope all goes well for you.  Even if you have to postpone so you can save up the $, I think it will be well worth it.  I know you can make payments also.  That is what I am doing.    Talk to them.  They are very helpful and caring.  They have insurance specialist that may can help you.
