Pros and Cons IVC Filter
Good Saturday afternoon All!
It came up in a previous post, the pros and cons of the IVC (or ICV??) filter that my surgeon uses to catch blood clots. I just thought it was a blessing and the most wonderful thing since apple pie. I feel it'll save your life when statistically 1 in 100 (1%) die from complications of weight loss surgery, primarily blood clots.
I had one placed in my jugular vein in my neck (right side) the morning of surgery and safely removed 6 weeks later. My body was scanned and ultra sounds done in my legs and arms (I think) prior to removal to search for clots. I had none.
Today was the first time I ever heard a negative comment about it, and I think it warrants further discussion. Of course, there is good and bad with everything, for sure. So, ok, I am ready to pull my head out of the sand and listen to any and all opinions on the subject.
It may greatly benefit those contemplating surgery.
Love yall,
Diane
The filter saved my life.
I went to have it removed a month afte surgery and they found a clot in the filter the size of my thumb.
All the staff in the lab where they put them in and take them out said to me and my husband I was a very lucky lady.
I know in my heart and soul if I had not had my filter I would not be here right now.
My surgeon saved my life twice one with the WLS and also having my filter put in before surgery.
I am on cumidian to help disolve the clot and I go for weekly level checks but it is slow going.
I have read many times when a filter is put in it is a permanant thing in many cases.
I go see my surgeon on the 12th and depending on what he thinks is best even if he says lets keep it in will be okay with me.If anyone out there is SMO I strongly urge you to have one put in.
