Oh, Girl Scout Cookies.... how many of THOSE have we eat in days gone by? This is the first year I can remember I haven't been approached, thank goodness. I thought it would be fun to ask what everyone's favorite GS cookie is... I'm a Thin Mint gal, and unfortunately Keebler came out several years ago with their Grasshoppers, which are one in the same to GS Thin Mints, so the thrill of the annual "treat" was gone for me once I discovered those. Keebler® Fudge Shoppe® Grasshopper® cookies I'm glad they now come in those 100 Cal packets so I can get a little "fix" now and then.   I even found this blog comparing the two! GS Cookie Trivia * Juliette Gordon Low initiated the cookie sale as a way for Girl Scouts to be self-reliant and to fund their own activities. * In the 1920s and 30s, Girl Scouts in different parts of the country baked their own simple sugar cookies and sold them to raise money for their activities. * The first national Girl Scout Cookie sale was held in 1936. * Over the years, cookie varieties have come and gone in response to changing consumer tastes. However, the only modification to Shortbread has been a "facelift" in 1979 when the cookie's traditional Girl Scout service mark was replaced by a more contemporary service mark. * Thin Mints is the top selling Girl Scout Cookie in America! * Each season, Girl Scouts sell almost 200 million packages of Girl Scout Cookies! * Homemade caramel, cooked to a rich creamy consistency, and a special toasted flaked coconut makes ABC's Caramel deLites® the second best selling Girl Scout Cookie and places it in the top five of cookies sold in the United States, annually. * All of ABC's Girl Scout Cookie varieties are cholesterol free. * For every box of Girl Scout Cookies you buy, more than two-thirds of your purchase prices stays right in your community. * People who may be following diabetic diets can enjoy ABC's Girl Scout Cookies by using dietary exchange rates here:  http://www.abcsmartcookies.com/cookies_smart_moves.asp?tab=n utrition&page=4 * All of ABC's Girl Scout Cookie varieties have a trans fat value of zero grams per serving. * Thanks-A-Lot™ Girl Scout Cookies speak five different languages! A language key is printed on the over wrap inside each box. Our cookies are made with pure vegetable shortening and all eight varieties are kosher. Kosher certification is provided by the Orthodox Union Rabbinical supervision. Each package is marked with the circle UD emblem. * ABC does not use any artificial preservatives in our Girl Scout Cookies. * Imitated but never duplicated, Peanut Butter Patties have been in our Girl Scout Cookie line for over 30 years.  They are the 3rd best selling Girl Scout Cookie and are among the top 10 best selling cookies in America.

* The national Girl Scout organization, Girl Scouts of the USA, approves and currently licenses two bakers: ABC/Interbake Foods and Little Brownie Bakers.  ABC has been an officially licensed Girl Scout Cookie baker for 70 years.  When you see the same cookie have a different name from one year to another, it is because these 2 bakers call them something slightly different.    Soooooooooooooo, what's YOUR fav cookie... Thin Mints Thin Mints: The most enduring and universally familiar Girl Scout cookie. These round, mint-flavored cookies covered with dark chocolate perennially sell the most boxes of any cookie. The round, bumpy perforated oatmeal cookie top and bottom surrounds a peanut butter-flavored layer inside. Do-Si-Dos® (formerly Gauchos) are baked by Little Brownie Bakers. These cookies come in a blue box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Trefoils; ABC Bakers call them Shortbread. Tagalongs® or Peanut Butter Patties®Tagalongs® or Peanut Butter Patties®: These are round cookies with a layer of peanut butter on top, and covered in chocolate. These cookies come in a red box. Little Brownie Bakers calls them Tagalongs®; ABC Bakers call them Peanut Butter Patties®.

Lemonades?Lemonades™: Introduced in 2006, these shortbread cookies are stamped in the shape of a sliced lemon with a tangy lemon icing. They are made by ABC Bakers and replace the Lemon Pastry Creme.

And were YOU a Girl Scout?? I was, and my fondest memory was learning about GARLIC.  Our leader was this kewl older Italian woman, and when we had spaghetti suppers, she would mix up the best salad dressing I'd ever tasted.  It was a taste I didn't know until then.  (My mama was NOT a cook.)  It was simple... just some oil, vinegar and garlic powder, but I could have drank that stuff... and to this day, God rest her soul, that might have very well been the beginning of my passion for foods and been the start of my lifelong culinary career!

I hope Juliet Lowe's Ghost doesn't rise up and kick me in the butt--I was a Girl Scout and I hated their cookies!  I sold them but I couldn't stand them.   I have no idea why !!! Just one of those perverted dislikes that you grow up with.

That's so funny!  I can just imagine you selling those cookies and hoping nobody asks you what your favorite is.  It would make a beeee-yoooo-tiful sitcom episode!

My Girl Scout Cookie Story!! My ex-husband was from Turkey, and he'd been in the US a total of about four months when the Girl Scouts started coming to our door selling cookies.  At the time, I was working and he was going to school to learn English, so he was home on his own in the afternoons.  He bought a box of Trefoils and felt pretty pleased with himself for negotiating the transaction successfully in his newly minted English. Well, it turns out he really liked those cookies.  We had some for dessert that evening, and he couldn't stop raving about them.   I told him about the history of Girl Scouts and stories about my own Girl Scout days selling cookies out on the prairies of Minnesota, and how Girl Scout cookies come out just once a year, etc., and so the cookies turned out to be a marvelous little conversation centerpiece.  I figured that was it for the cookie adventure. I couldn't have been more wrong. The next afternoon, another Girl Scout stopped by with cookies.  He'd taken seriously my telling him that GS cookies are a limited-opportunity item each year and worried he wouldn't be able to get more until the following year.  So he ordered 10 boxes. That Girl Scout told her Girl Scout comrades, and by the time I came home that night, he'd ordered 150 boxes from 10-15 different Girl Scouts! After that, I had to post a little sign on the door asking Girl Scouts not to sell more cookies at our apartment, please.  And we had a freezer full of cookies to last us for months! Every year after that, though, I had to prepare for the Girl Scout Invasion every February.  Word gets around fast when there's a guy who loves those cookies! My ex's birthday's in February, so every year now (even though we're divorced many years), I send him a couple boxes of Trefoils to celebrate.

I have been a thin mint addict for years! I was a Girl Scout and went to Camp Shirley Rogers in the summer. My grandmother was my first GS leader. Our troop and a neighboring troop went on a hike and walked right over a yellow jacket nest. We all got attacked and some had to pull off their clothes and shake out the bees. I had an allergic reaction and had to leave the day camp. My eyes swelled shut and my next door neighbor didn't recognize me at all. I was so upset!

Thin Mints & Shortbread!  Yummy!  They are both hubby's favorites too.  Our 2 boxes have already been delivered and are sitting in a bag on my dining room table waiting for DH to come home in a week.  I'm trying not to touch them.  :)  Once he's here, we can open them up and I'm sure I could have a cookie.  But I don't want to open the boxes until he's home! I was a Camp Fire Girl (similar to girl scouts, but we sold candy instead of cookies.)  Much fun was had with my group.  Our leader was the youngest in history (16).  She kind of grew up with us.  She started with us in 1st grade and stuck with us until we all got to high school.  What a fabulous experience.  I learned about self-reliance, personal responsibility, and compassion.
