A WOW and a whine
Wow, I'm sorry we're sisters in the family of fibromyalgia. I was first diagnosed in the 1990s but had many years of being relatively symptom-lite. I can't believe it took me three weeks to figure out that's what was going on. My doc put me on Lyrica, which has helped so much in just a few days. I'm taking a sleep aid, too, though that seems weird, because I'm already sleeping so much (just not very deeply for long enough periods of time -- not enough Stage IV sleep). I'm also looking into trigger-point massage. What works for you? How do you get through flare-ups? Have you tried Lyrica?

I was diagnosed in about 2001. My doctor has not tried Lyrica yet. I have been taking Meloxicam, a generic form of Vioxx. It has helped the stiffness and pain in my muscles and my back also. I had to stop taking it for a week before and 3 weeks after surgery and boy! did I miss it! Felt like I was 30 years older. I do not usually have flare ups that last more than a couple of days now. I guess that is because the doctor took me out of work in 2003 due to back problems and these other problems combined. They gave me the sleep aid also, but I seldom used it. The c-pap machine helped more than the medicine I think. But it seems that since the surgery I have been sleeping better. Before surgery, I was lucky to sleep 2 hours straight. Now I sleep 4 or more at a time. I love getting a massage. I used to get them at our local YMCA, but the lady does not come there now. It really seemed to help releive the pain.
