Hair ... To cut or not to cut ... 'tis the question of the day.

Hello everyone! Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!!
I for one am happy to see the end of the week. It's been a crazy work week.

As you can see in my picture, my hair is pretty long. It's starting to fall out and I swear I could make a wig from the hair on the floor in my bathroom. It has also turned very dry which is very odd for me. I was considering chopping it all off into a short, short new 'do. I have thick hair and I'm praying that the fall out process will not leave me too thin.

So should I cut it? When I say short - I mean something like this...

I may keep it a little longer than that, but not a lot longer. What is your experiences with losing hair post-op? Any and all suggestions are welcome. :) Becky

Hi Becky,

I also have very thick hair and was amazed and somewhat alarmed by the amount of hair I was losing. It started at about 2 months post op and continued for about 2.5 to 3 months. It really does stop falling out like crazy by the time you hit the 6 month mark and I've found that mine is getting back to it's old full self now that I'm 10 months post op. Sooooo .... I think it depends to a certain extent on how much you want to keep your hair long. If you do and you have a thick head of hair, I'd just take a deep breath and wait it out ... not that it won't be somewhat painful, but it will start to come back in. That said, I think that the short, sassy cut you are looking at would be absolutley adorable on you and it might be just the thing as you are going through this amazing metamorphosis. I do think that the shorter your hair is the fuller it will appear.

Let me know what you decide.

Like you, I have incredibly thick hair and it begain to fall out by the bucketfulls at about 3-4 months post-op.  I did cut mine super short (different style than your pic, b/c I am curly).  It was so easy short.  I am  now 2.5 yrs post-op and it is long again.  I never regretted cutting it.  I had a number of cute short-medium-med/long as it grew out too.

As you can tell by my avatar my hair was short both before and after surgery.  Just like everyone else my hair came out by the handful.   I immediately started on biotin and special hair products recommended for extremely dry hair (what's up with that).  I think you would look adorable in a short style but do what is best for you.  Consult with your stylist to see if just a slightly shorter do would help you get through all of the shedding.   But I'm like the other posters--new body new hair style--go for it!    Pictures please!!!

HI there...... you can go to dailymakeover.com and upload a pic and "try on" new hairstyles.  It is great and the avatar pic you have would be perfect to use for that.

Its free too

My hair was long to but was thinning so I went short, I love it so much easier to handle and well now since I've cut it it dont seem as if Im losing much hair. I do notice now alot of regrowth and no cut will fix the stand up straight hairs. I thought th hair loss would last a long time but Im lucky it only lasted for me for about 1 1/2 mo. But go short you will love it. I figured I would were it up more than down so thats why i had mine cut...........

Hey Becky...you are right TGIF!!!   I had to bring work home but better than going into the office.   That short do is so cute!!  Appears to be pretty low maintenance also.    If you decide you don't like it, your hair will always grow back out.   I say go for the new look for the new you! Take care and we want to see pics of you if you cut it! Pam

Hi Becky! Happy Friday to you as well! I cut my hair shortfor that very reason. It's grown out now but when I had surgery my hair was to my behind, it was too long to pick all the hair up, it even tied up a vacuum cleaner.  It was fun too, it's like a whole make-over process.  I looked at the link, I like the picture that is Style #2. Someone else said what I was thinking, send pictures!

I have always had very long hair. Never remember once having short hair. Well after almost 3 years of my hair falling out I went yesterday and had it all cut off. I cried and cried and hated that I done it. I know it is just hair and it will grow back but I used it for my use.lol....I could hide my eyes behind my hair and not have to look at people.
