Met with surgeon
We finally met with Dr. Naziri last Friday morning. We talked for a while and he seemed surprised to find out I had Hepatitus C, even though I put it on the first set of forms I filled out when beginning this process. Anyway he is concerned that having the RNY will cause my liver to get worse. His concern with the lap band is the same. He is also concerned that I may have portal hypertension with means my veins around stomach, liver, spleen could be very large and could easily be punctured during the surgery. He told me to give him some time to do some research, and come back in 3 weeks. I am pretty much feeling that neither surgery will be an option for me.

Hi Lizzie,
I'm sorry that you had a disappointing appointment, but I wouldn't give up hope yet. Let him do his research. I imagine he would have said an outright no if he thought there wasn't a possibility that he could do it safely.
I'll be thinking of you and look forward to hearing more.

P.S. You might want to post your issue on the main, RNY and LapBand boards to see if anyone else with your issues has had success. Good luck.

Did the google etc and the research shows the gastric can make my liver worse. I think it is the portal hypertension that has him worried the most and we wont know for sure if I have that until he gets in there - but because liver and spleen are both enlarged it is a distinct possibility....will keep you all posted and thanks.
Danielle - I definately trust and respect Dr. Nazari. If he thinks it is not in my best interest then I can accept that. When I started this I prayed that if I was meant to have this surgery for everything to go smoothly - maybe this is not what I am susposed to do at this point. Thanks for your support.
