Okay here I go day after tomorrow I start my liquid diet.  I am so afraid I will not be able to stick to it.  I just keep telling myself I have to do this.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?  I need lots of encouragment!

Lisa, You can do this!  Just think of how great you are gonna feel once you get through the rough start.  I think about it myself.  I know it will be easier after the surgery.  I keep telling myself  just fast forward a little and it will all be worth it.  I'm here if you need support. angie

You can do this!!!  The first 3 days are the worst.  I just kept telling myself that this is what I have to do to be able to eat real food again!  Best wishes! Andrea

Andrea hit the nail on the head.. the first three days are the worst.  Once you get past that, you are home free!  Just keep your eyes on the bigger prize!  Come here to vent if you need to because we all know how you are feeling.. :)

It is so overwhelming, but like the others, after the first 3 days, it does get more bearable.  One thing that helped me was to remember the MAIN reason for the liquid diet---to shrink my liver and make it more pliable so that it can be moved out of the way during surgery.  Being a nurse and having cared for people with liver lacerations, this notion helped me tremendously!  And--believe it or not, in a few short weeks you'll be having to make yourself drink and eat!   I believe in you and know you will do it!  Just believe in yourself. You've gotten this far------you can make it!

Lis...

One of the things that has really helped me is "The Beck Diet Solution" ... It's a book and workbook that are program to help you learn how to 'think thin' ... it helps me to focus, keep my eye on the ball and reprioritize. You can order them online or get them at a major bookseller.

You CAN do this. Make a list of all of the reasons it is important to you and look at that list anytime you think of straying. Look at that list when you get up in the morning, look at it before you go to bed a night. Put it on your mirror and your refrigerator.

Remember ... you CAN do this.

Oh boy oh boy!!!
You are going to be on the OPTIFAST diet, correct??
I will be honest it is NOT fun at all, I am not sure if you followed me or not, while I was on it, I had a hard time!! BUT I made it thru and you will too!!!
My main suggestion is KEEP YOURSELF BUSY BUSY BUSY far away from food!!
Drink lots and lots of water!! If you think about food, go for a walk, scrapbook, exercise, plant some flowers or go for a drive!!  If someone else is able to prepare your families meals, LET THEM!! Lock yourself in your bedroom during mealtime..LOL I DID!! Just remember why you are doing this liquid diet in the first place...You are about to change your life and have AMAZING results while doing so!!
SO hang in there and 2 weeks will be here before ya know it!!
ALSO, AFTER i had my surgery, I was very glad that I did do the 2 week liquid Optifast diet, because it mentally and emotionally prepared me for the 2 week liquid diet post op!! It made it much easier!!
Hang in there girl!! And if you can...the Chicken Soup, Chocolate and Strawberry were my picks :)

As everyone else said, the first three days are the hardest.  I had to do liquids for a little over 3 weeks.  The way I got through it was drinking lots and lots of water and chewing lots and lots of sugar free gum.  Don't drink for about a half and hour before you do your shake and for at least half an hour after, that helped me feel fuller longer plus it was good practice for after surgery. You can do this, you are strong! Take care. Ellen

Own it all, it's yours!

Thank you all for your support, I have already decided when I feel like I can't do this I will get on here and all my new friends will get me through this.  Luckily most of the time it's only me and my DH and he has graciously told me he would fix meals for himself and my son when he is home.  Again, thank you all for helping me and I will be sure to just stay busy for the next two weeks.
