Backhanded compliment - funny...
I was at a church function last night and one of the ladies there was trying to offer a compliment but came out with..." Wow, you look great...I didn't know you were so pretty under all of that." I love her and know she meant well. I just got a chuckle out of it and took it for face value. Just thought it was too funny!!
BTW - 6 months out tomorrow, hit onederland last week, no longer obese BMI, just overweight and fit into a size 12 this weekend!!!! This has been the BEST thing I have ever done for myself. YEA!!!!!
Wow! Good job. Yeah, some of the compliments we get now hurt. I was talking about finally seeing my clothing size change and a lady said, "well, you had to get rid of all them layers of fat before you could even tell what size you are". I was like o.k., thanks. I can't wait to see a size 12. Actually I don't think I ever saw a size 12. I went straight to the 20's. hahaha Congratulations on your loss!
I hear you loud and clear on this one. I think what bothers me the most is when my family says something like that. My grandmother just last week...."I just can't get over how beautiful you are now." .... my first thought is, "wow, I must have been pretty ugly to you before huh?"
I know that's not what she means, her wording was just wrong, but those insecurities still linger from time to time and comments like that make me remember the obese person I used to be a little too clearly.

That is funny. Old people are so blunt.
I was at a doctor's appointment once chatting with a sweet old woman. Her husband came to join her and she said to him...as if I was deaf..."Look at her Lou. It's a shame she's so big. She's got such a pretty face."
I guess it could have been worse. But if I was thin and ugly would she have said "Look at her Lou. It's a shame she's so ugly. She's got such a cute a**?"
Just wondering...
