Stomach pain...

I had my RNY Wednesday and came home Friday.  I am runnning a low grade fever, have pain in the entire gastgric area and stomach, and belch constantly no matter what I drink.  Passing gas from the rear is a major effort.  I feel very nauseated if doing anything but laying down.  Is this normal?  I don't want to interrupt the Doc's weekend if it's not.  Thanks

I would call your doctor, DONT WORRY about interrupting anyones weekend, they get paid out the nose for these surgeries and I would call your Doc and find out what he says. I didnt have any pain at all except on the left side of my body where they had the biggest staple attached to the muscle, I did burp A LOT and still do!!! you are only a few days post op so you should be resting sweetie!!!!

I 2nd what Darcie said... Call you doc!  I didn't have much pain either.  I get gassy (still) but it doesn't make me feel nauseated...  There should be an on call doctor or nurse that is just waiting for your call!  So don't feel bad!!!!   Keep us posted and I hope you feel better soon!!!

Call your Dr. It's not uncommon to run a low grade fever after a major surgery, but it would be prudent to call and let them decide if that and your discomfort are an issue that needs to be addressed. My pain was manageable, but I did feel as though I'd been slammed with a baseball bat in the abdomen. The belching is absolutely normal. They pumped you full of gas to enable them to see what they were doing during the surgery. It has to come out one way or another.

I hope you feel better soon.

Call him NOW.  Do not worry about calling Dr. Bauman, believe me.  Remember when you were discharged that we told you to call if you had ANY concerns, a temperature above 101, etc.?  You have to take us seriously!  He would rather you call him and it be nothing for him to be concerned about than you to not call him and end up seriously ill.  Please do not hesitate to call him ... you will NOT ruin his weekend.  He and Dr. Pirrello WANT their patients to stay in touch with them and call them any time you need them.  They are each pretty much on call all the time for their own patients, too.   Please, please call him.  Take it from one of "his" nurses!
