Dear Lynda, Protein comes in all shapes and sizes - and not just protein shakes; Real foods like - cottage cheese, vegetarian (fat free) refried beans, baked beans (all kinds of beans), low fat or no fat cheese, lean chicken, turkey, fish, shrimp, crab meat, tofu, egg beaters -- just to name a few. Who was your surgeon? Did they not give you a list of foods, the amount of food to eat, and how many times a day? Does your surgeon's office have a nutritionist you can go see? Sugar is a no-no. High fat is a no-no, since now that we have just a pouch, our new stomachs will no longer tolerate or be able to digest these foods, because it goes right into our intestines. If you want sweet things w/o sugar Jell-o makes both S/F jello and pudding; there is many s/f ice creams; but jus****ch portion size, if you get the kind to just scoop out. I know of a few recipe boards you can try: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/GastricBypassRecipes/ http://www.bariatricbytes.com/recipes.html (Dame Tooter - is an OH Member Services Associate - And this is her personal website). And I'm sure OH has a recipe forum that you can browse for good ideas. Basically you make the choice of what you want to eat to help you live and thrive. Good wishes and hats off to you to making the choice to change your way of life forever. Hugs, Tracey B. in Las Vegas 404/379/150 = Lap RNY 11-21-06 http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/traceyb_lv/

Topic: Beginning of December - Christmas 25 days away
Hi everyone! Okay, Christmas is coming -- much too soon for me! I had my surgery 11-21-06, and I'm still recuperating at home. So, my husband feels I have plenty of time to fill out the cards, write a informational letter for our friends, type up mailing labels and do everything with these. Since he works nights, he is sleeping during the morning. Is there anyone who has any suggestions for me to help him understand that I don't "yet" have all this energy to do Christmas Cards for everyone we know. Just the thought of 50-75 cards, makes my head spin. EEk. I'm still dealing with pain, and taking medications that once only took 5-10 minutes taking 1-2 hours, with all the small sips of water and cutting the big pills down enough to swallow comfortably. Then it takes like 35 to 55 minutes to eat a meal. I don't have enough time to even to do all that when I'm sleepy and fatigued all day. Any hints to get a little more energy or extra hours in the day? Thankfully I don't have children to bring to the mix. Just a dog who wants to have me play all day with him. Thanks to all those who have gone before me with these situations. I look forward to hearing from you. Topic: RE: Did you see Oprah today?
You really just have to look at yourself. With these shows, Oprah or not, they have to go for the WOW factor and what will be of interest to their audience. I am not saying that what they were talking about is not true, because with any addiction, when you loose one, you can pick up another one if that particular addiction is not dealt with, but you really have to take some of what is said with a grain of salt. If it is not you, then don't pay attention to it. I am about to be three months post op and I have no addictions to boot and don't plan on having any. What they were talking about is only one aspect of WLS, not the whole kitten kabooodle. Blessings, Ari

Hi my name is Angela and im 21yrs old. I am intrested in WLS. Not sure what type yet. I have been overweight for the past 5 years or so. I was diagnosed with PCOS in feb of 2005. I have had depression most of my life and it seems impossible to lose weight. I am a caregiver/Medtech at one of the local Assisted Living facilities. I love my job but lately my weight gain has affected my ability to stay focused. I have no isurance and in the state of nevada if you dont make lots of money its nearly impossible to get insurance. Any help?? Angel

Awww, Kim, I hope all went well for you. I didn't see your message until today, so I missed being able to contact you. I would have been glad to, especially since I only live a few minutes from the hospital - boo me! I expect that all went smoothly and you're happy to be home recuperating now! Jill

Topic: RE: you don't loose weight with lap band??
I lost well in the beginning, but then my band leaked and over the next 7 years I regained all I had lost. I agree, the band is only a tool - it's easy to outsmart in some ways, too, when you're discouraged is like a double whammy. Most of us want to go to old behaviors when feeling down. I believe that the band also is more effective for those with not as much to lose. If you are a super super morbidly obese person like I was, the best surgery that I found for me was the DS. Took a lot of research to find it, though. Anyway, at 20 months out, I've lost 234lbs with 41lbs to go. Good luck in your research. I'm super glad to be rid of the band and the vomiting and the not being able to eat good foods while the bad foods slid right through.... but that was my own experience.
