Topic: RE: Surgeon That Accepts Medicare...
I can't say that they take high risk patients, but my suggestion is to seek a surgeon who does revisions and/or ones who've handled other possibly high risk patients.. The reason? Doc's who are willing to do revisions are more apt to take a high risk patient - revisions are often considered higher risk than standard WLS. So may I suggest the following, who appear to have accepted Medicare in recent months: Dr. Cottam - one of his patients I personally would class as high risk, having had tumors and diabetis, and 3 brain surgeries. You can read his profile here - http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+profile+Daniel+Cottam+MD+qqm.ht ml Dr. Ganser shows to have an older patient (60+) with a high BMI (60+) on medicare http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+profile+John+Ganser+MD+fpl.html If that doesn't work for you, let me know and I hope you'll let me know how it DOES work for you too Best of luck! ~Tooter

Topic: Throw out the spinach
WASHINGTON (AP) - Consumers nationwide should not eat fresh bagged spinach, say health officials probing a multistate outbreak of E. coli that killed at least one person and made dozens of others sick. Food and Drug Administration and state officials don't know the cause of the outbreak, although raw, packaged spinach appears likely. "We're advising people not to eat it," said Dr. David Acheson of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition It was reported a few minutes ago to throw out all bagged spinach! Hugs, Sandyd

Dear Group, I am seeking info about any surgeons in Nevada that do WLS on High Risk patients. Also, accept Medicare. My father is in serious need of WLS. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Kelli

Topic: RE: Moving to Reno September
First off....If you have good insurance then getting the surgery in Reno is fine. I'm sure the doctors are more than qualified. I'm one of those poor people that make too much to qualify for state assistance....and not enough to be able to afford medical insurance....not ot mention no insurance agency will touch me because of my obesity....so I have to pay out of pocket. I found a place in Idaho Falls, ID....it's like the place in Reno...and the whole surgery (lapband) from post op to 12 weeks pre op is 12K. That covers everything you need to take care of the process. Even with the travel time and the couple trips you would have to make after the surgery...you're not even coming close of the cost of Reno's costs. I contacted this hospital in Idaho 2 weeks ago. My surgery is scheduled for Mid Novemeber....( they would get me in sooner...but I want to wait until after my anniversary...;). Research your options before you dive into Western Bariatrics...:)

Topic: RE: New procedure in las vegas?
Hi Terri, I actually received information about this today. It's called the mini gastric bypass, and is performed by Dr. Rutledge in Las Vegas. The cost for the entire proceedure, etc is 17,000.00 out of pocket as he does not accept insurance of any kind. His out-of-hospital time is under 24 hours, the procedure takes 30 minutes, and apparently it has as high a success rate as RNY... Of course, remember I said that I only just heard about this today. I came over to the NV board to see if anyone had ever said anything about it, and look - there you are. If you google mini gastric bypass, it's the first website that pulls up! Tammy
