Sleeve is not newer...just starting to get covered as a stand-alone weight loss surgery.

While he has over 300 RNYs, sleeves are different, after care is different....

If you are comfortable with him, and they have a VSG aftercare program documented, then go ahead....

he has done over 300 laproscopic roux-en-y. he is the only on ein the practice that has been doing the sleeve since the sleeve is only abt 2 yrs as a weight loss. He works with 3 other doctors. Some specialize in lap band and 1 specializes in the bypass even though they all can perform all the surgeries. The sleeve is also less invasive then the gastric bypass. I have total trust and confidence in my surgeon. I know not many other surgeons have much more then 40 sleeve surgeries since most insurance companies dont cover this newer procedure. Most people that get this surgery are self pay and go to doctors in Mexico. Im lucky that my insurance is covering this surgery. That was one of my main concerns that they wouldnt cover it. I was just curious if anyone else had used this doctor. I wouldnt call him inexperienced with 300 surgeries and he is also with 2 practices. I was just trying to educate the other person who said he had no experience.

Lap bypass - do you Laproscopic Roux-en-Y? Or 300 Lap Bands?  It's very different in experience...

Only 30 VSGs?  Seems like not very much - is there anyone else in the practice that has VSG experience that can overwatch him?

He has done over 300 lap bypass surgeries and abt 30 sleeves. Is that considered  a new surgeon ?

I'd wouldn't go to a new surgeon for WLS....too many variables.

Yes, I didn't think about the insurance aspect. I think my curiosity is that they didn't sign me up for the physical when I called in he first place. Just kina weird. Last year they discharged me from the program because I gained weight during my dietary supervised part. ooooooops! And then I had to beg to get back in so that is part of my suspision also. I just want to get going, its been a long time and I am ready. and impatient lol. Thanks

.....and the journey begins!!!! -D.

It could be because of your insurance.  With all the new insurance changes going into effect at the beginning of the year, it might be one more step to cover every ones butts.  I went through Highland for my surgery....of the few Bariatric programs in Rochester, they were defiantly the most thorough and detailed orientated to make sure you succeed and don't have a lot of problems with being denied  Good luck, you'll get there!
