Hi, How about coming to Rochester? Dr William O'Malley and Dr Laei Forbes at HH are excellent. I think they may do lap band also. My surgery was done 10/25/2001 in Rochester but by Dr. Harry Sax who left the area. Strong no longer does bariatric surgery. Dr. O'Malley did emergency surgery on me 9/2009 for an internal hernia and partial small bowel obstruction, and he is a skilled surgeon. I also like the hospital a lot. I work for a surgeon at Strong but also recommend Highland. They may accept the work up you have already had at Arnot Ogden. I know they require a psych eval and a nutrition consult as well as attendance at some of their support group meetings prior to surgery.
If I can help you at all in looking for a surgeon in Rochester, let me know.

Hi Everyone ! I been reading these boards for months and have finally decided to join in. I was suppose to have lapband surgery done but now due to the Arnot shutting down their program I am going to have to start all over somewhere else .Not very happy about that. I had gone thru everything that was required put into my insurance was denied then was approved just to find out all slots had been filled. So now I guess its off to Sryacuse which will mean the third Dr. I will see. Started out with Dr. Rahman then they stopped taking patients then went to Dr. Grijalva who I totally adored and now who knows who it will be. I live in Lawrenceville PA. so any place I go to will be at least 2 hrs away. Now the problem I was going to go with the lapband but due to an error on the paperwork I was approverd for the RNY one. So now I have to decide do I just go ahead and do this one where once I heal there isnt as much matienence which is good since I live so far away or do I go with the lapband and start all over and try to get approved for that one. Im pretty much thinking that I will go with rny but i am a little scared about it. I have a big fear of surgery due to having a bad surgery a couple of years ago that has resulted in 3 other surgeries since then to repair the first one . so any advice . Im hoping to get to know everyone and be able to come here for support. Thanks in advance
Anna

Hey Deb,
I've been told that awareness is 95% of the issue and by you acknowledging this regain and resetting your goals and commitment will help you get back on track.
It's good to see you online again. Let's try to get this NY forum back to where it used to be. Also, don't forget to utilize the numerous FB virtual bariatric support groups (even OH has one on FB....lol)
There's no such thing as too much support, right?
As far as not having a local support group where you are, would you consider beginning one? OH has a FREE support group leader training that I highly recommend. After meeting you, I think you'd be GREAT at it! Also, I can and will help you every step with suggested ideas, agendas, handouts, etc. So let me know.
Hey, are you on Long Island this week at your moms? If so, let's get together again, if not, please keep me in mind for your next visit. And in the mean while, you have my cell and know how to get in touch with me if I can be of any further assistance!

Hello Mary,
Yes this and the other board are very slow lately, it used to be such a busy place! Well thanks for posting hun and YES to all your questions.....along with not moving as much as I should and eating more sugar!
I will be hanging around and see what is going on, I will jus****ch and read. I know I will get back on track but it takes time to work on yourself I guess. This time I am dealing with the WHY I eat and the inside before I really think about another surgery!
Thanks again Mary, have a great day!

Hi Deb: I visit here but not so many people posthere much anymore and I'm not sure why that is. I do however visit the main forum frequently and also take part there. Welcome back and also pat yourself on the back for seeing that you need to correct whatever it is you have been doing that may have caused you to regain. Old habits do die hard! I myself have put on about 10# and am 2 1/2 years out of RNY surgery. Did you find yourself perhaps snacking a bit more? (I did) and also eating quicker or maybe not chewing your food as thoroughly as you should? (I did) Did you by chance forget to get in all of your liquids and then it seemed like (for me) that every day I drank less and less? I also found myself drinking with my meals again. I am working on corrections myself and believe me its hard to do!! But it can be done!! Perseverence!!!! I hope you can find a support group near you as I think they are so important in keeping you focused. ALso, I think those of us who have already had surgery can help others (& ourselves) just by re-inforcing what good habits we have learned and good experiences we have had. (I know it's not all poseys & roses here either however, I think others should be encouraged not discouraged especially when contemplating surgery. However as you know they all have positivies and negatives, too. Best of luck getting back on track. If you search here on OH there are other groups, too that may or may not help you or peak your interest. Again, welcome back and good luck ! Take care, Mary
