Jamiee, I live 2 hours from Dr. Curry and the only people I have are my husband and our son. Hubby won't be able to take off work for the entire time I will be hospitalized and our son's work schedule is such that by the time he'd get there for a visit, he'd have to be back to work. This means, for the exception of the actual surgical day and the day of release, I'll be pretty much by myself. Add to that, they are saying hubby might have to go back to Japan on a monthly basis but that's still up in the air with no definate dates so, its possible, he might not even be here at all. I do have a friend in Tennessee who said she'd come up if needed and a good friend that is in Florida (about to be blown off the earth) who said she would come as well but, that's an inconvenience to them and I don't want to do that. So, my honest gut feeling is for myself, I'll go to Dr. Curry in a heartbeat regardless of how far away he is and deal with no one around except via the phone. This is a temporary situation and I will be able to deal with it. Of course, I can always pick up that phone and call for moral support and I know if I really needed someone there, they'd come in a hurry. This is, however, all pending insurance approval! Beth

There is so much support here in Cincinnati. We all will be here for you. If you want a great Dr. A ton of friends, come to Cincinnati. Hes the best and cares the most. For a pretty big city you would be surprised how small we are when it comes to this surgery,Love Cindy...I am real gung-ho Dr, Curry

Jaimee, Now remember, this is my OPINION...ok? Just from what I have read about Dr. Curry, the fact that he gets on line and supports his patients, along with the support group down there, I would say that is your best bet. Is the Dr. Price the one from Mt. Carmel? Look at the follow up care that will come with the staff at Dr. Curry's office. I am always seeing someone from that area online. You are never alone, reach your hand out and I am sure there is someone there who would be waiting to take it. I think there is a sound support system there, and between that and Dr. Curry's (and staff's) reputation that would be the best decision. Financially, it would be crazy not to go with where your insurance covers as well. Money is money. Think of it as your cocooning phase...you go down to Cincy, have your surgery and come back a new person with a new life to start. Leave the old Jaimee down by the river! LOL God bless you and I will pray for you during this time. You know in your heart what the right decision is...now make it. Take care, Valerie

Jaimee, Good morning. As everyone here has mentioned, Dr. C rocks! I am here for you as Nicole mentioned. You will never be alone here in Cincinnati sweetie. My whole group will make sure of that. Having Dr. C would be a wonderful choice. I am the president of his fan club. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. My number is all over my website at imnotfatanymore.com. ~~jaimee--i didn't want to say much yesterday cuz i really wanted you to get info from others and make your decision intelligently--i drove almost 3 hours to get to my doc--and i love him! i hear only good things about dr curry and his staff--if only hearing about him would be one thing but to hear such wonderful stuff about his whole staff--that is soooo important--specially with aftercare! you will be in contact with some of them even more often than with dr c-- YOU must be happy, my dear angelette!!!! you will NOT be alone thru this believe me!! as your angel...i will call in any favors from the cincy area!!!! the butterfly network (jack and all!!!) and sandy's group are both very active and wonderful ppl ==and ya gots me, honey-i may be up here in northern ohio but i am here!!!! so--now it gets to be what will your insurance cover??? and how soon can you get re-approved?? the act of that is so much simpler than the initial approval--just a matter of them allowing change of surgeon and facility-- hey toots- i have an early work day so gonna sign off but know that i love ya and i am here ....will email you later! now- talk to your hubby and make your decision and put it all in God's hands...that's the best place to be!!!!!!

I think you can do this without your hubby being there! The hospitals around here all seem to have the nicest people, very caring and understanding nurses and patient care assistants, etc. (I've been in University, Jewish and Christ.) I just bet Deaconess is no different. My husband was at the hospital when I had surgery at University (his choice). It was a long day for him. I did want him there when I went into surgery, and he was there when I was in the recovery room, and then when I finally got sent up to my room. Then I made him go home! The staff was wonderful and as long as I had everything in reach, I was fine. When I had my abdominoplasty on 8/2 at Jewish Hospital, I made him go on to work when I went into surgery. He came back after work, and I made him go home since he was beat. ( I had to be at the hospital at 6:00AM, so we were both up really early that morning!) You will be fine! The staff will understand your needs better than you hubby will right after you have surgery, and it may be really hard for him to see you looking, well, lousy, after surgery! It really would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to have surgery. Sue

Hi Jamie, I live in Northern Kentucky, right across the river from Cincinnati and I had originally chosen a surgeon in Lexington, 2 hours away. Just this morning I got a call from UHC telling me that they would not cover him, since he is out of network. They will however cover Dr. Curry. So I got on the phone and talked to Leslie(who was very nice) at Dr. Curry's office and have an appointment for 9/15. If it hadn't been for these boards, I would not have known about him. I like how he takes his time on this site to answer questions and I get the feeling that he is very concerned about his patients. As you can see, he has lots of fans in this area, and I am sure that you will get support here when you need it. As for him being "eye candy" as some people say.....My main concern is how good he is with his hands!

Hey Jaimee, As you may have seen on your previous post, Barix Clinics has new contracts with several local insurances like Ohio Health and others. You may want to check into that before going so far away. Of course, we all think our surgeons and programs are the best! And I'm no different. I think Barix is the #1 program here (in Columbus anyway). Call and talk to them...614-277-9980. Blessings, Ruth in Ohio
