irregular heartbeat

When my EKG was done for preauthorization testing, the Dr. noticed an irregular heartbeat. I'm wearing a halter monitor, and I have to return to Columbus today to return it, so the Dr. can interpret it, and hopefully keep me on schedule for Monday. My mind is racing, hoping that everything comes back okay. I have never been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat before. Does anyone here have one, and what was your course of treatment?

Theresa, I'm sorry to hear about this news. I'm sure it will be okay, though. I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I don't know if this is the same thing or not, but once I had some problems with a "fluttering" feeling... I went to my doctor and he suggested I cut out caffeine. Do you take in a lot of caffeine now? Just a thought. I don't know if it would hel*****t since I'm certainly no doctor! I'm way to squemish!! My mom had to have a heart monitor once a long time ago. They tried for years to figure out what was causing her irregular heartbeat. Turns out, a few years ago, they did some kind of newer test and found that her heart is actually "deformed" in a way. Instead of the normal wiring most of us have to our hearts, she kind of has "two left feet." It's just something she was born with. I'm still not sure of the exact details because she's not really a detail person. However, I can tell you she is still kickin' and as stubborn as ever!! She does have to take medication, but it doesn't prevent her from living a normal life. In fact, she still tries to live like a teenager! She cracks me up!! Anyway, hopefully they'll find it's nothing serious and won't have to mess with your surgery date. Again, I'll be hoping and praying for you! Hang in there!! Hugs! Angela

Theresa, don't stress out over something yet..I was born with a congentital heart defect and have been aloud to have 2 children and WLS...I'm sure your doctor is just being extra careful and taking extra care of you..after all thats their job, to keep us safe and healthy.. I think you have a good doc..some wouldnt have noticed it and would have never sent you home with the monitor. Just keep a positive attitude. Pam...

Thanks to both of you for the encouragement. It's so encouraging to know that when I start to freak out, there are people here to remind me to breathe. Thanks for your kind words!
