Home from surgery!!

Well folks, I'm back home. Actually I was home yesterday but have been really tired. AND my mother (aka The Warden) won't let me near my computer....but I have my phone!! Lol

So surgery had a bit of a blip, as my Angel Tabetha mentioned, and the staple gun misfired and went through to the back wall of my colon. They ended up removing about 6 centimeters I'd colon and started again. And it went smoothly after that. The nerves of my husband and mother were not so great, but it's over and I'm home.

Here's a few things to remember, because in my morphine haze, I didn't. Dilute your juice. I totally forgot. Also, ask if the jello is sugar free. I assumed it was, and I dumped like crazy in the middle of the night. Heart rate went up, major explosion etc.

It was shocking what they gave me. Regular pudding, juice with no water to dilute it with. Crazy. And just know your stuff. It wasn't until the night after surgery that they reminded me how much to drink an hour. Luckily I remembered.

Glad to be home. Figuring out how to get the required food in seems impossible!!

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

Welcome home and welcome to the bench!  I can't believe a bariatric centre didn't give you diluted juice and sugar free jello!  I would mention it at your check up because like you, most are in morphine haze and won't know better!  I hope you have a fast recovery!

I had my surgery at Toronto east general, which is part of the Toronto western bariatric clinic. however the hospital I had my surgery at has only been having the surgery there for one year, and maybe two a week at the most. With staff rotation the way it is, they are still clueless as to what to do for us. Only last lunch tray there was vanilla pudding....regular.

Who was your surgeon? We have similar numbers, as far as how much weight we want to lose and orginal weight. I weighted myself today and i'm 232!!! I have a my second appt with the surgeon (Dr Huynh)to determine my date and pick up my opifast. How long were you on opifast? I think they said 2 weeks for me but i'm hoping only 1 week of opitfast...

I was with Dr. Aarts with twh. I was very lucky because I only had to do optifast for four days. However it was only because there was a spot open for surgery so fast (found out friday that I was having surgery Wednesday). I am positive that if there wAs more time that I would have been forced to do the two weeks of optifast. Good luck with your journey. We are very similar. I was 231, and was down to 227 at my pre-op, but haven't been weighed since so I have no idea what I weigh now lol I don't have a scale at home.
