Pureed diet starts today - already confused

So now the separation of liquid and food begins. However on my sample menu it says to have 1/2 cup of protein shake with 1/4 cup of pureed fruit. Is the protein shake not liquid?

Just seems to contradict.

Hi Kelly

At this point you are not looking at the food/liquid thing...... I think that is only after you start eating solids.
Pureed you can't really distinguish between food/liquid LOL

take care
Hope all is well

Oh that makes sense to me, but my sheet says this is when I have to seperate liquid and "food" (because really, is pureed meat really food?). I think the paperwork TWH contradicts a lot. On one sheet it says to have the protein shakes in the liquid phase six times a day, but on the sample day menu there's only 5 shakes.

Yes, I have too much time on my hands right now lol.

Hey Kelly

LOL, just my opinion but it seems to me that if you separate the liquid and pureed all day then you will be eating all day LOL

I say call them and ask, unless someone else who had surgery at TWH has the answer................. Just seems way too complicated
I never had fruit til after the solid stage.
I was told to concentrate on protien so everything I ate was pretty much protien, but hey what do I know? LOL

Good luck

my sample menu did that right into the solids stage.  so I assumed that what they meant was 1/2 cup of protein shake and 30 minutes later, 1/4 c pureed fruit.  this is why you need time off work, to spend all day figuring out what to eat and when!

Hey there,

I remeber how anxious I was at this stage, but in the end I loved it simply because it wasn't a protein shake, and there was opportunity to introduce so many new flavours!  Good luck.

I would call your dietician to clarify.  I was told to wait 1/2 hour before and after eating to concume water or liquid of any kind.  If you aren't, then your pureed food will move too quickly through your system, and you won't absorb as much of the protein and other nutrients (atleast that's my understanding of it).

I called the dietician and left a message. I have no idea how long they take to reply.

Hey Kelly
I just started the puree stage too. I think it depends on the individual and how well you are tolerating what you are eating. Since it takes about an hour to eat I am sure you can have the protein shake with your few tablespoons of food. I have been able to eat and have some of the protein shakes together, but I don't let myself get too full. I am having trouble getting enough water in in a day, but I am also back to work so it's easy to forget.

Hope all goes well. Trust in your body and listen to it's cues.

Thanks all for your help (and sarcasm lol). The dietician said that basically if my pureed foods are liquidy enough then it's ok to have with the shakes. But things like tuna or Melba toast needs to have the half hour wait.
