Have any of you used Hair extensions during the hair loss part of your journey? Just thinking ahead here as I'm not quote a month out, but I have thinning already (pre-surgery) and I can't imagine losing more! I think I'll be wearing lots oh hats this summer! I usually have been sine my scalp burns because my hair is so thin

I would think extensions may be hard on your hair.

I haven't had hardly any hair loss at all, just the average few hairs a day that I always seem to lose. I eat TONNES of protein and I think that has helped sooo much. The surgeon and dietician were impressed that I haven't really lost any hair

I say, get alllll the protein in you can and that should help a lot.

My hair is REALLY thick so I can stand to lose some.  I still haven't noticed a loss yet.  I lost a lot of hair when I breastfed my 3 boys and all the hair came back.  I noticed some hair pieces in the Avon book at a really good price.  Maybe someone has bought them and can chime in about them.  Just pray to the hair God's to be nice to you :)

I figured that extentions (extensions?) are harsh on the hair, and probably more damaging. I lost my hair breastfeeding too, but it never came back. I chalked it up to my new diabetes diagnoses, coupled with huge gyn-ey problems i've had for years. I get all my protein in, and take my multi-vits and such daily. Praying to the hair gods!!!!

Extensions actually causes more trauma to your hair. It stresses the follicle and can cause permanent damage

funny you should mention this it was on city tv this week. They were alking to a model who wears them for photo shoots.

I have/had incredibly thick hair, with the loss I had after this surgery I now have a "normal" head of hair.  That being said, when going through Chemo (several hundred years ago) I had access to a Cancer Care Ontario Program "Look Good Feel Better"  They provided me with hair extensions as I had enough hair to apply them too.  Toady's wigs are another good option.

Ensuring you have enough protein and maintain a ferritin level (iron) over 40 will help stem the hair loss.  The chemo trick of a tight head band to keep the blood supply in the hair follicle has worked for some as well.  The light at the end of the tunnel is that the thinning of hair tends to be short lived.  Ask a vet!

i am almost 10 months out and haven't lost any hair, yet...
hoping i won't.
i'm getting in at least 80g-100 of protein  a day and taking iron supplements.

not sure that's why or could be that my loss has been slow and steady.

And now that brings up another question about protein and iron. I had low iron before surgery, and i'm taking Profera (gag) now. I did have blood work done a week after surgery, as my CBC levels were dropping daily, but didn't hear back the results so I assume that the levels are good. But I wonder what "good" is to keep the hair going.

Also, the protein. Big discussion for me lately. I went over all of my literature from TWH, and it tells me I should be getting 60-80 grams a day, but you are the third person I have seen who gets 80-100 grams a day. Every clinic, doctor etc. is so different.
