Thank you everyone for the replies. Pinkjellybean, I luv how you explain your reasoning for surgery. I definitely will use this one!

Please know that I normally am not a sarcastic person or use sarcasm, it was just in this case this person in our family always thinks she is above everyone else and treats everyone like crap and with sarcasm. I just felt it was time someone gave her a taste of her own medicine so to speak.

Good for you for standing up for yourself.  Sometimes people need to hear they way they speak to people thrown back at them.  I'm sure everyone else at the table was cheering under their breath.

My sister questioned my decision purely out of concern, but once I told her about all the research I'd done and that I knew what I was getting into, she was cool with it.  Other than that, I've been lucky in that I've only had one truly negative response said to my face - the receptionist at my chiro's office.  She went thru the program in Burlington that everyone else knows is a demeaning scam, but she did well.  She also spent 12 weeks on Optifast.  That's not a typo - TWELVE WEEKS!  I told her that that wasn't the plan for me, and since I was much more overweight than her, this was my decision and no one elses.  I can't wait until I go back and she's there and she can see how well I'm doing.

Good for you! What she said was downright rude, condescending and demeaning to you & I'm sure that everyone at that table was cheering you on, silently, after your reply to her! I'm a very non-confrontational person usually but sometimes you just have to put a person like that in their place (I have a cousin who acts that way also and she is constantly saying blunt & hurtful things to others - so sad....).
