Being Discouraged By Everyone I Talk Too
I had a few problems with people at first too. I deciede that I was doing this for me and if they didn't want to be in my life to support me, I wasn't going to be in their life. My mother got the message loud and clear and has done a total turn around. I highly recommend going to a support group meeting. Even if you drive a distance, it is worth it. Best of luck to you.

A lot of people go by misinformation and gossip when it comes to this surgery. Most people have no knowledge about the real facts. Everyone will say "OH I know so and so, who had the surgery and was still fat". Don't let that ruin it for you. A lot of people will seem non supportive but are actually more scared than not supporting you.
Educate the person you feel that you need to. Take this person with you to your consult. Let them hear the facts whether it is your Mom or significant other.

Amy,
I understand where your family and friends are comming from. You have to follow your heart and you have to be well informed. Read, research, talk to as many people as possible about it. Once you have made up your mind, one way or the other, your friends will back you no matter what. If you decide to have the surgery, then forward your friends and family to the research and reading that you have done. Once they see that you are unwavering in your decision they will, if they care for you, support you. Once my friends understood exactly what I was doing and why they backed me up as did my family. They just need to know that you know what you are doing.
