Medicine Wow Moment and Nexium question

My blood sugar was 119 today.  120 was the cut off for when I didn't have to take my diabetes medication, so I didn't have to take that today!  Woo hoo!!!!! I take Nexium, which is a capsule.  I was told to open the capsule and mix it with a drink or sprinkle on food (like Jello, I presume).  Anyway, I put it in my tea this morning and thought it went down easy.  Except when I made my second cup of tea, there was the Nexium granules, all nasty sitting on the bottom -- SUCH A DISGUSTING TASTE!   Anyone else take Nexium and have a solution?

Hi Jill,   I also take Nexium and Dr. P said for me to continue that and did not give me pepcid.  I asked about how to take it and was told to swollow it whole, yes, in the capsule form.  At my discharge meeting with Joanne, the RN, she wondered about that and then checked with the pharmacist.  The pharmacist agreed to swollow it whole.   I take it first thing in the morning with water and I wait before I drink or eat anything right away.  They told me the capsule starts to break down quickly and this would be a good way to process the Nexium and not flu**** out with fliuds.  If I have my protein stuff first, I wait a little before taking the Nexium and again, don't drink anything for a while so it can break down and release its magic. How are you feeling?  Are you able to get your proteins and fliuds in?   You will be happy with full liquids.  It it easier to get in the proteins and of course there nothing like pudding!    Jan

I feel fantastic!  I'm not using protein, just getting in the fluids -- usually a tad more than the 64 oz, and lots of that is broth which at least has a little protein.  Dr. Pupkova told me to start my vitamins yesterday, and I see her for follow up tomorrow.  I'm so glad to hear about the Nexium.  I still have that gross taste in my mouth!  LOL.  Full liquids in 2 days.  I am so looking forward to protein shakes, pudding, and some milk in my decaf!   Hope you are well.

Hi I take prilosec and swallow it whole. It has been fine. But check first as I did not start taking it until my 6th week out. And that is great about your sugar. Keep on keepin on. Arlene

Jill, I won't be much help as I was swallowing my vitamins and the few meds I take after the 4th day.  You are right the product in the capsule is nasty.  Try mixing it in with a protein shake (put it in the blender with some ice). Good luck to you. Jeanne
