You'll need to be creative with this, especially if you are going to be in a full liquid phase as a post op.  The one thing I've learned with the protein shakes is that the colder they are, the better.  I add a lot of ice in the blender.  It makes it nice and milkshake like.  Also, anything you will be able to eat as a post op can go into your protein shake.  For example, you can put fruit (fresh or frozen) in there, yogurt, peanut butter, carnation instant breakfast, sugar free decaffeinated coffee (general foods international swiss mocha and french vanilla are my faves), and even no sugar added hot chocolate (for a hot treat).  I never really liked the unflavored myself, but with some of the suggestions I just gave you, you can add taste to those shakes.  Good luck to you.

#1 Rule .... never stock up on anything ... your taste buds will change drastically.  What you like now, you will probably gag over when you become a post-op.  Even you like something as a post-op, your taste buds will change from day to day.

There are many websites that sell samples of different flavors of protein powders.  This way you won't be stuck with any large quantity of anything. Make sure that any protein powders are within guidelines.  Less than 2 gr. of sugar per serving ... extremely low carb ... extremely low fat.  NO CAFFEINE.

Check out these websites:

BETTERBODZ.COM

VITALADY.COM

BARIATRICEATING.COM

UNJURY.COM (THEY SELL CHICKEN SOUP PROTEIN POWDER)

BARIXCONNECTION.COM

There are many more websites, these are just the ones I can think of at this time.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Great idea. That's how I found the right one for me. I was given a sample to try. And when I went on thier site to order a can of it, I saw they sell samples. So I ordered samples in other flavors to try them out.

This will be much easier on the wallet. I can't tell you how much money I have wasted over the years on protein I couldn't stand and wasted it. Most of the ones out there now how sample packs so you can try it out first.

I use Unjury. I use one scoop of chocolate in my coffee in the mornings. Every morning.

I also make a gallon of crystal light lemonade and add about 3 scoops of the strawberry to it so I have easily ready protein to drink at home. It's quite tasty.

then I keep the unflavored on hand to add to whatever else I may drink.

Hope this helps you.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Here are two of my favorite protein shake recipes:

1.  one cup skim milk
two tbsp sugar free decaffeinated coffee mix (I use General Foods International French Vanilla)
one scoop of Any Whey Protein Powder
      4 ice cubes
Blend together for about 45 seconds

2.  1/2 cup skim milk
4 oz Dannon Lite & Fit yogurt (any flavor you like)
      1/3 cup Cheerios
one scoop of Any Whey Protein Powder
1 packet of Splenda (if you like)
       4 ice cubes
Blend together for about 45 seconds

Hope you like one or both of these!

I am not supposed to use any dairy, bread or meat products...thus my dilema.  I am using the Bariatric Advantage powders that I got from the weight loss clinic.  I am only supposed to do the diet 2 weeks pre op but decided to do it a little longer because I wanted to get a jump on the weight loss...have been overweight a REALLY long time and I'm over it.  The suggestion of not doing the whole scoop at a time seems like it will help a little.  All I am allowed to be eating is 4 shakes a day and up to 2 cups of non starchy fruits and veggies.  Fruit wise I am only supposed to be eating strawberries(5 a day), grapes(10 a day) and pineapple(1 slice a day).  I really want to do what I am supposed to be doing as far as losing the weight but I need to be able to actually swallow what I am putting in my mouth.  Creativity is lacking only because I also have a lot of other things going on and can't take 5 min to think about what I am doing.  I appreciate all the responses and hope that this info can help you help me a little better.  Thanks again all.
